Job Overview:
The Education Technical Assistant position at NRC involves a range of responsibilities aimed at supporting educational initiatives within refugee and host communities. The role requires the individual to monitor and report on project activities, ensuring compliance with established plans and NRC standards. The assistant will collaborate with community education committees to facilitate planning and enrollment in educational activities, distribute school materials, and promote safe and inclusive learning environments. A key expectation is to support the inclusion of marginalized groups, such as girls, refugees, and learners with disabilities, in program activities. The assistant will also provide supervision to teachers and instructors, suggest innovative methods to enhance program quality, and report on protection-related concerns. This position is crucial for the successful implementation of Life Skills, Digital Skills, and i-UPSHIFT activities, requiring the assistant to assist in organizing various educational events and maintaining accurate program records.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Education Technical Assistant include: monitoring and reporting on project activities to ensure compliance with NRC standards; collaborating with community education committees for planning and enrollment; distributing and monitoring school materials; promoting safe and inclusive learning environments; reporting safeguarding concerns; supporting the inclusion of girls, refugees, and learners with disabilities; providing supervision to teachers and instructors; suggesting new methods to improve program quality; collecting routine monitoring data; maintaining attendance registers and assessment records; updating program databases; documenting success stories and lessons learned; conducting follow-up visits to schools; assisting in the orientation of community stakeholders; supporting the establishment of Life Skills and i-UPSHIFT clubs; managing logistical arrangements for trainings and meetings; maintaining program records; assisting in procurement planning; and performing any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant field, along with teaching experience of at least three years. Candidates should have experience working on education projects in humanitarian or recovery contexts, and previous experience in complex and volatile environments is preferred. Documented results related to the responsibilities of the position are essential. Knowledge of English is mandatory, and the ability to speak a local language commonly used by beneficiaries is an added advantage. Familiarity with the local context and education systems in Uganda is also important, as is the ability to work harmoniously with both refugees and host communities. The candidate should be self-driven and capable of working with minimal supervision.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the individual has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively support educational initiatives within the refugee and host communities. The degree should be complemented by relevant coursework or training that aligns with the responsibilities of the position.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three years of teaching experience, particularly in educational projects within humanitarian or recovery contexts. This level of experience is crucial for understanding the complexities of working in challenging environments and for effectively implementing educational programs that cater to the needs of vulnerable populations. Previous experience in similar roles will be highly regarded, as it demonstrates the candidate's ability to navigate the unique challenges associated with education in crisis situations.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within NRC and with stakeholders.
