Job Overview: The Fund Internship Program (FIP) is designed for PhD students in economics, providing them with a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful research that contributes to the work of the IMF. Interns will apply their economic research skills to address real-world policy questions that impact the IMF's 191 member countries. Throughout the internship, which lasts between 10 to 12 weeks, interns will work closely with experienced IMF economists, gaining hands-on research experience and enhancing their analytical skills. This program not only allows interns to contribute to significant projects but also helps them build a professional network in an international environment. Many interns have the opportunity to present their findings to IMF staff, and some may even see their work published internally, making this an invaluable experience for those passionate about macroeconomics and international policy.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for conducting individual research or project assignments that align with the IMF's objectives. This includes gathering and analyzing data, developing economic models, and preparing reports that summarize findings and recommendations. Interns will collaborate with IMF staff to refine their research questions and methodologies, ensuring that their work is relevant and impactful. Required Qualifications: To be eligible for the Fund Internship Program, candidates must be within one to two years of completing a PhD in macroeconomics or a related field. Evidence of current student status and academic performance is required, which can be provided through a recent transcript or a letter from the university confirming active enrollment and recent grades.
Experience: While specific prior work experience is not mandated, candidates should have relevant research experience, either through academic projects or internships, that demonstrates their ability to conduct economic analysis and contribute to policy discussions. Experience in using statistical software and economic modeling tools will be advantageous.
