Job Overview:
The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at FAO aims to attract talented young individuals who are motivated to share their innovative ideas and academic experiences in the fields related to FAO's work. This program provides a unique opportunity for interns to supplement their academic knowledge with practical work assignments, contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and FAO's Strategic Framework. Interns will engage in various tasks that align with FAO's mission, focusing on transforming agri-food systems to be more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable. The intern will report to an assigned supervisor and will be involved in different fields of work based on their profile and the organization's needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will perform functions as specified in the Terms of Reference (TOR) prepared by the hiring office. This includes conducting research, assisting in project implementation, participating in meetings, and contributing to reports and presentations. Interns are expected to collaborate with team members, share knowledge, and engage in continuous improvement initiatives. They will also be involved in activities that support the organization's goals and objectives, ensuring that their contributions align with FAO's mission to combat hunger and improve food security.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited institution. They should specialize in a field relevant to FAO's mission. A working knowledge of at least one FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish) is required, and knowledge of a second FAO language is considered an asset. Candidates must be nationals of FAO member countries and should be aged between 21 and 3
Educational Background:
Candidates should have a background in relevant academic studies that align with FAO's fields of work. This includes disciplines related to agriculture, food security, nutrition, environmental science, and other related areas. Educational qualifications must be obtained from institutions recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandatory, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic knowledge and skills that can be applied in a practical setting. Previous internships or volunteer work in related fields may be beneficial but are not required.
Languages:
A working knowledge of at least one of the FAO languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish) is mandatory. Knowledge of a second FAO language is advantageous and may enhance a candidate's application.
Additional Notes:
FAO does not charge any fees during the recruitment process. The organization encourages applications from qualified female candidates, nationals of non- and under-represented member countries, and candidates from Low-Income Food-Deficit Countries (LIFDCs), Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Land-locked Developing Countries (LLDCs), and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend unless sponsored by their universities or other entities. Candidates must have appropriate residence or immigration status in the proposed country of assignment prior to joining FAO.
