Job Overview:
The Project Coordinator for the Chagas Disease Program will oversee the implementation of a new initiative aimed at combating the spread of Chagas disease in the Matagalpa district of Nicaragua. This role involves coordinating with local healthcare providers, managing a team of healthcare professionals, and ensuring that the program meets its objectives effectively. The coordinator will be responsible for developing strategies to educate the local population about Chagas disease, its transmission, and prevention methods. Additionally, the role requires monitoring the health outcomes of the program and adapting strategies based on feedback and results. The coordinator will also engage with local authorities and stakeholders to foster collaboration and support for the program's goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Chagas disease program, ensuring that all activities are carried out in accordance with MSF protocols and standards.
  • Coordinate with local healthcare providers, including doctors and nurses, to implement screening and treatment initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver educational materials and workshops for the local community to raise awareness about Chagas disease and prevention strategies.
  • Monitor and evaluate the program's effectiveness, collecting data on health outcomes and adjusting strategies as necessary.
  • Manage a team of healthcare professionals, providing guidance, support, and training as needed.
  • Collaborate with local authorities and organizations to enhance the program's reach and impact.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in project management, preferably in a healthcare or humanitarian context.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in Spanish and English.
  • Knowledge of Chagas disease and its impact on communities is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work in challenging environments and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess program effectiveness and make data-driven decisions.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in public health, medicine, nursing, or a related field is required. A master's degree in public health or a similar discipline is preferred. Additional training or certifications in project management or humanitarian response would be advantageous.

Experience:
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project management, particularly in health-related programs or humanitarian settings. Experience working in Latin America or with underserved populations is a plus. Familiarity with Chagas disease and its treatment options will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the role requires extensive communication with local communities and stakeholders. Proficiency in English is also required for reporting and coordination with MSF international teams. Knowledge of indigenous languages spoken in the region would be beneficial but is not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
This position is full-time and based in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. The contract duration is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension based on funding and program needs.
