Job Overview:
The UHP Housing Specialist plays a crucial role in securing and coordinating safe, sanitary, and affordable housing for newly arriving humanitarian parolees and refugees. This position involves providing logistical support and working closely with staff, clients, and community partners to stabilize the living situations of these vulnerable populations. The specialist will be responsible for locating housing options and connecting clients with long-term resources for low-income and designated affordable housing opportunities. Additionally, the UHP Housing Specialist will participate in program planning and service development, working under moderate supervision while exercising independent judgment and initiative. The role is set to conclude on September 30, 2027, emphasizing the importance of stability and support for clients during their transition.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UHP Housing Specialist's responsibilities include identifying and securing safe and affordable housing for newly arriving refugees, ensuring compliance with established program requirements. The specialist will conduct outreach to landlords and property managers to build relationships that facilitate housing access for refugee families. They will coordinate logistics for housing setups, including ordering furniture, arranging utility hook-ups, facilitating lease signings, and conducting home safety inspections. The role also involves implementing procurement protocols, delivering client orientations, satisfying recordkeeping requirements, and potentially training support staff and volunteers. The specialist may need to travel using a personal vehicle or public transportation to fulfill these duties effectively.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year of housing-related professional experience. Experience working with refugee or immigrant populations is preferred. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong relationship-building skills, diplomacy, and networking abilities, along with effective communication in a multicultural environment. A self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills, the candidate should be able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy in their work.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position, providing a foundational understanding of housing, social services, or a related field. This educational background is essential for navigating the complexities of housing support for refugees and humanitarian parolees.

Experience:
The position requires at least one year of professional experience related to housing, with a preference for candidates who have worked with refugee or immigrant populations. This experience is vital for understanding the unique challenges faced by these groups and for effectively addressing their housing needs.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory. Proficiency in Ukrainian and/or Russian is preferred, as these languages are commonly spoken by IRC’s clients, enhancing communication and support for those populations.

The position offers a compensation range of $26 to $27 per hour, depending on various factors such as labor market conditions, job type, and individual candidate experience.
