Job Overview:
The Portfolio Management Officer will play a crucial role in the Portfolio Management Division, focusing on monitoring a portfolio of loans, bonds, and guarantees for private sector and non-sovereign guaranteed infrastructure and energy clients in the Southern Cone. This position requires a dynamic professional who will act as the central point of contact for assigned clients, conducting regular and ad-hoc analyses of their performance, identifying any breaches, and proposing solutions to resolve contractual events. The officer will ensure the stability and financial health of IDB Invest’s portfolio while supporting the Portfolio Head of Infrastructure and Energy and mentoring human capital within the team. The role involves working closely with various stakeholders to manage and supervise IDB Invest’s portfolio effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities of the Portfolio Management Officer include managing ongoing relationships with clients, agents, B-lenders, co-lenders, and other parties involved in assigned portfolio transactions to ensure proper supervision. The officer will monitor periodic information, including trends in global financial markets, country-specific economic situations, and industry developments, to evaluate their impact on IDB Invest’s counterparts and portfolio. Regular and ad-hoc analysis of financial statements and performance will be conducted, along with the preparation of high-quality periodic supervision reports and risk rating proposals. The officer will assess credit, integrity, environmental and social risks, and contribute to the development effectiveness standing of transactions under supervision. Participation in regular monitoring meetings, portfolio review discussions, and site visits with clients and relevant stakeholders is required. The officer will collect, analyze, and disseminate portfolio credit-risk information and emerging market trends to support informed decision-making across the institution. Ensuring compliance with IDB Invest’s internal policies and guidelines is essential, as is taking proactive measures to protect IDB Invest’s interests and manage compliance with contracts and covenants. The officer will respond timely to client requests for portfolio actions, including evaluating, negotiating, and processing required disbursements, waivers, amendments, and consents. Guidance will be provided to other Portfolio Management Officers in the Southern Cone region to ensure accuracy and quality of internal supervision reports and the technical and business soundness of proposed solutions to clients’ requests or transaction issues. The officer will also propose and lead actions to improve and streamline internal processes and contribute to corporate initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, Development Studies, or other relevant fields. A minimum of four years of progressive experience in supervision, structuring, credit assessment, and/or rating of corporate and/or project finance counterparts is required. This experience should be gained within a development financial institution, commercial or investment bank, financial advisory firms, or rating agencies. A clear understanding of the operational work of IDB Invest or similar multilateral institutions is essential, along with sector knowledge in the industries in which IDB Invest operates and experience in an international environment, preferably in the Southern Cone.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree or an equivalent advanced degree in relevant fields such as Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, or Development Studies. This advanced education is crucial for understanding the complexities of the role and the financial instruments involved in portfolio management.

Experience:
The position requires at least four years of progressive experience in areas such as supervision, structuring, credit assessment, and/or rating of corporate and/or project finance counterparts. This experience should ideally be gained within a development financial institution, commercial or investment bank, financial advisory firms, or rating agencies. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the operational work of IDB Invest or similar multilateral institutions, along with relevant sector knowledge and experience in an international context, particularly in the Southern Cone.

Languages:
Proficiency in both Spanish and English, spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of Portuguese is considered a plus, which can enhance communication and collaboration within the region.

Additional Notes:
The position is offered as a national staff contract for an initial duration of 36 months, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement.
