Job Overview:
The driver position at EBRD is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of staff and visitors within Nigeria and neighboring countries. The role requires a professional demeanor as the driver often serves as the first point of contact for guests and senior management. The driver will be responsible for maintaining the vehicle in good condition, adhering to local driving regulations, and ensuring a high standard of service. This position not only involves driving but also may include clerical tasks and assisting with office maintenance as needed. The driver will be expected to maintain a travel log and ensure compliance with health and safety requirements, particularly in emergency situations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the driver include:
  • Driving EBRD staff and visitors safely and punctually, ensuring an efficient journey.
  • Adhering to all local driving regulations and EBRD standards.
  • Providing transport for the Head of Office/Director and other Bankers.
  • Assisting Bank visitors with transportation needs.
  • Maintaining the RO car(s) in safe working condition and ensuring cleanliness in the RO garage and driver's area.
  • Delivering documents and packages for the EBRD.
  • Observing the Road Safety Code at all times.
  • Assisting with maintenance tasks at the RO as required.
  • Supporting the office with clerical tasks, such as purchasing supplies and administration. 1
  • Completing the weekly travel log sheet. 1
  • Maintaining the satellite phone in accordance with health and safety requirements. 1
  • Acting as a First Aider and focal point in case of emergencies, if assigned.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the driver position include:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Completion of secondary school education.
  • A valid driving license with a safe driving record.
  • Strict compliance with safety procedures.
  • Excellent driving skills and technical knowledge of vehicles.
  • Defensive Driver Training is preferred, although training will be provided.
  • An Advanced Driver Training/Certificate is advantageous.
  • Experience working in an international environment is beneficial.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for interacting with staff and visitors.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary school education as a minimum requirement. This educational background ensures that the driver possesses the necessary foundational knowledge and skills to perform the duties effectively. Additional training in defensive driving or advanced driving techniques is preferred and will be provided if not already obtained.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have experience working in an international environment, which is crucial for understanding the diverse needs of staff and visitors from various cultural backgrounds. Previous experience as a driver, particularly in a professional or corporate setting, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a history of safe driving and adherence to traffic regulations.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as effective communication is essential for the role. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if it enhances communication with a diverse range of visitors and staff.
