Job Overview:
The UNEP Programme Management Intern will be involved in various aspects of project management and support within the Ecosystems Division, specifically focusing on the Cartagena Convention Secretariat. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about environmental issues and wish to gain practical experience in international environmental governance. The intern will assist in developing project concepts and proposals, conduct research and analysis, draft documents, and support the preparation of technical papers and outreach materials. The internship is a hybrid role that allows for both remote and in-person work, providing flexibility while ensuring that the intern gains valuable hands-on experience in a professional setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include assisting in the development of project concepts and proposals to support Contracting Parties in implementing the Articles of the Convention and Protocols. They will contribute to the creation of relevant technical papers, conduct research and analysis, and draft documents to support project implementation. The intern will take notes during working group meetings and prepare meeting minutes, ensuring accurate documentation of discussions. They will provide support to Programme Management Officers and Project Management Officers, ensuring that all agreements with implementing partners are current and that necessary documents are organized and accessible. Additionally, the intern will assist in organizing regional workshops and webinars, prepare technical papers on key focus areas such as Marine Biodiversity and Marine Pollution, and help develop new project proposals. They will also assist in creating and maintaining databases related to program implementation, compile and design infographics and awareness materials, and prepare outreach materials for significant environmental commemorative days. The intern will support the implementation of program activities at the UNEP Cartagena Convention Secretariat and follow up with focal points for the submission of national reports.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an academic background in environmental science, marine or coastal management, marine biology, ecology, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">environmental law, international relations, sustainable development, management, or related fields relevant to marine and coastal conservation and environmental governance. While professional work experience is not required, applicants must have a field of study closely related to the internship. Candidates should be students in their final year of a bachelor's degree, or enrolled in a master's or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds are essential. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are also desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or being enrolled in or having completed a master's or Ph.D. program. The field of study should be closely related to the internship focus, such as environmental science, marine biology, or sustainable development. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant degree will be required during the application process.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic knowledge and skills that align with the responsibilities of the position. Languages:
