Job Overview:

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be expected to support the creation of prototypes that convert legacy formats to modern formats, assist in developing automated updates for nuclear structure and decay databases, and help link nuclear structure and decay data across various IAEA applications. The role may also involve exploring methods for automating data management processes and enhancing the metadata associated with nuclear data. Interns will be encouraged to contribute ideas and solutions that align with the IAEA's objectives in nuclear science and applications, ensuring that their work supports the agency's mission effectively.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline. They should have experience applying Python to solve scientific data-related problems, demonstrating excellent programming skills in Python. A basic understanding of statistics and machine learning techniques is required, while a good foundation in linear algebra and numerical optimization is considered an asset. Experience with scientific data databases is also advantageous. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and proactively.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be at least 20 years old and have completed a minimum of three years of full-time university studies towards a first degree. They may apply up to one year after completing their bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree. It is important that candidates have not previously participated in the IAEA's internship program, ensuring fresh perspectives and new contributions to the agency's work.

Experience:
The internship is aimed at individuals who are either currently studying or have recently graduated, thus requiring candidates to have relevant academic experience in their field of study. Practical experience in programming and data management, particularly using Python, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as independently when necessary.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is essential for this position.
