Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Development System was restructured on January 1, 2019, to enhance its effectiveness in achieving the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This reform led to the establishment of the UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), which operate under the leadership of an empowered UN Resident Coordinator. This office plays a crucial role in supporting countries to meet their development priorities and achieve the SDGs. The Development Operations Coordination Office (DCO) was transformed into a stand-alone coordination office within the UN Secretariat, overseeing the Resident Coordinator System. The DCO's functions were recalibrated in 2026 to ensure optimal support for the 2030 Agenda, focusing on data, digital innovation, and a mission-driven culture. The position is based in the UN Resident Coordination Office in Bangui, Central African Republic, under the direct supervision of the Head of the Resident Coordinator Office.

Job Overview:
The UN Driver position involves safely transporting authorized personnel and, in peacekeeping missions, transporting general cargo and specialized hazardous goods. The driver is responsible for making regular deliveries of parcels and documents between the UN office and various institutions, including ministries and embassies. The role also includes making minor purchases, collecting urgent items from local suppliers, and handling customs regulations. The driver will meet official personnel at the airport and assist with immigration and customs formalities. Daily vehicle maintenance is a key responsibility, including checking oil, water, and brakes, performing minor repairs, and ensuring cleanliness. The driver will log official trips, monitor mileage and fuel consumption, and ensure compliance with safety regulations in case of accidents. Additionally, the driver will assist in data collection and analysis, prepare presentations and reports, and update information materials such as web pages or brochures. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Safely drive vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and cargo, including hazardous goods when necessary.
  • Make regular deliveries of parcels and documents between the UN office and other institutions.
  • Handle minor purchases and collect urgent items from local suppliers.
  • Manage customs regulations and formalities for goods collection.
  • Facilitate immigration and customs for official personnel at the airport.
  • Maintain effective and tactful communication with officials and visitors.
  • Perform day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, including checks and minor repairs.
  • Log official trips, daily mileage, and fuel consumption.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations in case of accidents. 1

  • Update information materials and perform other assigned duties as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid National Driver's License and have a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience as a driver with a safe driving record. Experience driving various types of vehicles, including vans and other motorized vehicles, is required. Familiarity with the United Nations or international organizations is desirable. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, as well as the current conditions of roads and highways, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, planning and organizing skills, and client orientation in their work.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. A relevant first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of two years of required experience, providing flexibility in the educational requirements for candidates.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of progressive responsible experience as a driver, with a proven safe driving record. Candidates should have experience driving a variety of vehicle makes and models, including vans and other motorized vehicles. Experience with the United Nations or any international organizations is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's suitability for the role.

Languages:
The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. For this position, proficiency in French is required at UN Level II, which includes reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Knowledge of English is also beneficial but not mandatory for this role.

Additional Notes:
This is a fixed-term position with an initial appointment period of one year, subject to budgetary approval and availability of funds. The recruitment process is subject to local recruitment rules, meaning applicants must be authorized to work in the Central African Republic. Selected candidates from outside the duty station will be responsible for their relocation expenses. Local recruits are not eligible for allowances or benefits exclusive to international recruitment.
