Job Overview:
The Protection Officer will work under the supervision of the Protection Coordinator for North West Syria (NWS) and will be responsible for the development, organization, and supervision of protection activities, particularly focusing on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response, as well as psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support (PSS) activities in the Idleb and Aleppo governorates. This role involves managing and providing technical support to Social Assistants and PSS Assistants, while also liaising with community-based protection committees and local NGOs to ensure effective protection services are delivered. The Protection Officer will play a crucial role in maintaining the safety and integrity of project operations, particularly concerning beneficiaries, and will be expected to adapt programming to improve relevance and impact based on community needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Officer's duties include planning, organizing, and supervising daily protection activities with a focus on GBV and PSS, ensuring proper implementation of activity workplans, and proposing adaptations to improve program impact. The officer will coordinate with community-based committees, manage logistics for activities, and oversee the administrative support for team members. Additionally, the officer will provide technical supervision and support to Social Assistants, conduct capacity needs assessments, and facilitate training on protection topics. The role also involves ensuring adherence to RI's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and humanitarian principles, monitoring case management activities, and maintaining accurate documentation of protection data. The Protection Officer will represent RI in coordination meetings and develop effective relationships with stakeholders, while also reporting on achievements and challenges.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a degree or diploma in law, social work, human rights, sociology, psychology, or a related field. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the protection sector, particularly with vulnerable women and girls, is essential. Knowledge of GBV prevention and response activities, including case management and PSS, is required. Strong verbal and written communication skills in Arabic are mandatory, along with the ability to work under pressure and in a team setting. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are also necessary, enabling sensitive and non-judgmental interactions with diverse communities.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a relevant degree or diploma in fields such as law, social work, human rights, sociology, or psychology. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of protection work and the specific needs of vulnerable populations, particularly women and girls affected by GBV.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working with NGOs or INGOs in the protection sector. This experience should specifically involve working with vulnerable women and girls, demonstrating a solid understanding of GBV prevention and response activities, as well as psychosocial support initiatives. Familiarity with the Northeast Syrian context and local dynamics is highly desirable.
Languages:
Fluency in Arabic is mandatory for this position, with excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Proficiency in English is considered a desirable asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with international stakeholders and contribute to reporting and documentation efforts.
