Job Overview:
The Project Director for PlayMatters 3.0 will lead a significant initiative aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for refugee and host community children in Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Uganda. This role is crucial as it involves overseeing the implementation of a five-year project funded by a private foundation, ensuring that the project meets its objectives and delivers impactful programming. The Project Director will coordinate efforts across various partner organizations and IRC staff, acting as the primary representative to key stakeholders, government officials, and donors. This position requires a strategic approach to project management, ensuring compliance with donor agreements and adherence to internationally recognized standards of assistance. The Project Director will also be responsible for fostering relationships with stakeholders and maintaining a collaborative work environment that empowers staff and promotes teamwork.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Director will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: providing strategic and technical leadership for the project; overseeing the implementation of activities to maximize impact; developing and monitoring annual work and performance plans; ensuring project delivery aligns with operational policies and procedures; managing partnerships and providing financial and operational support; reporting to donors through formal and informal channels; maintaining relationships with key stakeholders; representing the project publicly; and supporting project staff by fostering a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and mutual respect.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree from an accredited university in international development, humanitarian assistance, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 10 years of experience managing programs for refugees or crisis-affected populations in challenging contexts is required. Experience in managing large-scale, multi-million dollar projects across multiple countries and partners is essential. Familiarity with education programming in East Africa, particularly in Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Uganda, is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate success in capacity-building and implementing participatory, flexible, and gender-sensitive programming.
