Job Overview:
The Technical Officer for Traditional Medicine will play a crucial role in the Health Systems, Access and Data (HSD) division, which is dedicated to supporting the achievement of universal health coverage (UHC) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This position is integral to the Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (TMC), which leads WHO's efforts to integrate traditional medicine into global health systems. The officer will be responsible for ensuring safe, effective, and equitable access to traditional medicine practices, focusing on research, evidence, and strengthening health systems. The role involves establishing a robust evidence base, supporting regulatory mechanisms, and fostering collaboration across sectors to optimize the contribution of traditional medicine to global health and sustainable development. The officer will also support countries in developing and implementing national policies and health plans related to traditional medicine, ensuring alignment with WHO's Traditional Medicine Strategy 2025-2034.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of WHO policy on Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) practitioners, developing and managing related documents and tools. Key responsibilities include contributing to the development and updating of normative and technical documents, databases, and educational materials for TCIM practitioners. The officer will support the organization and coordination of WHO TCIM practitioner-related projects, oversee the collection of evidence on TCIM policy and regulation, and provide technical inputs for developing products that improve TCIM practitioners' competencies. Additionally, the officer will develop an information-sharing mechanism between countries and partners, organize interregional training programs on capacity building for TCIM practitioners, and provide technical support to countries in building regulatory mechanisms and education for TCIM practitioners. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first university professional degree in traditional, complementary, or integrative medicine. An advanced university degree in a relevant field such as public health or education is desirable. Essential qualifications include at least 5 years of experience in traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine, with a minimum of 2 years in education and training. Experience collaborating with multilateral, bilateral, and regional development institutions is also required, along with demonstrated international exposure. Desirable qualifications include experience working with WHO or other UN agencies, clinical practice in traditional medicine, and experience in multidisciplinary teams integrating evidence-based traditional medicine into community practices.

Educational Background:
The position requires a first university professional degree in traditional, complementary, or integrative medicine. An advanced degree in a related field such as public health or education is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the field of traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine, with at least 2 years specifically in education and training. Experience in collaborating with various development institutions and demonstrated international exposure are essential. Desirable experience includes working with WHO or other international agencies and involvement in clinical practice within traditional medicine settings.

Languages:
Expert knowledge of English is essential for this position. Intermediate knowledge of French and other UN languages is desirable, as it may enhance communication and collaboration in a diverse work environment.

Additional Notes:
The position offers a competitive salary starting at USD 71,335 annually, with additional benefits including a variable post adjustment reflecting the cost of living, 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependents, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
