Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position is designed to enhance the digital presence of UN-Habitat Myanmar and the Myanmar Climate Action digital platform. The role involves improving website structure, user experience, and content management through technical expertise in WordPress development and digital content support. Volunteers will work on various tasks, including website enhancement, data visualization integration, and the implementation of AI-enabled solutions. The goal is to create a more accessible and user-friendly platform for sharing information on sustainable urban development and climate action initiatives. Volunteers will collaborate closely with UN-Habitat Myanmar to ensure that the digital platforms effectively communicate the organization's mission and engage stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteers will undertake a range of tasks under the supervision of UN-Habitat Myanmar, including: participating in an initial orientation to understand assignment objectives; reviewing the existing website structure and identifying improvement opportunities; assessing WordPress themes and providing recommendations; supporting the design and development of WordPress templates; improving website information architecture; integrating digital resources and interactive features; assisting in developing data visualization tools; exploring AI tools for content management; ensuring website compatibility across devices; conducting basic testing of website functions; uploading and organizing web content; coordinating with program teams for content accuracy; preparing technical documentation; providing knowledge transfer to UN-Habitat focal points; and participating in progress updates and final handover sessions.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a strong understanding of WordPress development, website design, and digital content management. They should be familiar with data visualization tools and have experience in integrating interactive web features. A good grasp of digital communication practices and the ability to work collaboratively in a remote environment are essential. Volunteers should also demonstrate problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing technical requirements.
Educational Background:
A background in web development, digital communications, information technology, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have relevant training or certifications in WordPress development and digital content management.
Experience:
Volunteers should have prior experience working with WordPress, including template development and website enhancement. Experience in digital content management, data visualization, and the use of AI tools for website functionality is highly desirable. Familiarity with remote collaboration tools and practices is also beneficial.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communication and documentation will be conducted in English. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the local context may be considered an asset but is not required.
Additional Notes:
The assignment is remote and is expected to last for 12 weeks, with a workload of 16-20 hours per week. Volunteers will not be required to access restricted internal systems or modify live websites without authorization. All public-facing content will be subject to review by UN-Habitat Myanmar before publication. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to meaningful digital communication efforts that enhance stakeholder engagement and knowledge sharing in the context of urban development and climate action.
