Job Overview:
The Wildlife Monitoring and Field Coordination Officer plays a crucial role in supporting the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of wildlife conservation activities within the Hala Bala – Bang Lang Landscape. This position is focused on wildlife monitoring and surveys, biodiversity data analysis, field coordination, and maintaining effective collaboration with Bang Lang National Park, Hala Bala Wildlife Sanctuary, and Hala Bala Wildlife Research Station. The officer will serve as a field representative of WWF, implementing joint conservation initiatives and strengthening partnerships with government agencies and local stakeholders. The role requires a proactive approach to wildlife conservation, ensuring that the organization’s mission is effectively communicated and executed on the ground.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Wildlife Monitoring and Field Coordination Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including planning and conducting wildlife monitoring and biodiversity assessment activities, such as camera trapping, wildlife surveys, and habitat assessments. The officer will coordinate field surveys with relevant protected areas and support the deployment, maintenance, and retrieval of wildlife monitoring equipment. Additionally, the officer will manage and maintain wildlife monitoring databases, process and analyze biological and ecological data, and produce maps and analytical reports. The role also involves preparing technical documents and donor reporting inputs, facilitating stakeholder consultations, and representing WWF during field operations and technical meetings. The officer will support procurement and inventory management of field equipment and assist in planning project workplans and budgets. Coordination with protected area authorities on SMART patrol activities is also a key responsibility, ensuring integration of monitoring data to improve conservation outcomes.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, ecology, forestry, environmental science, natural resource management, conservation biology, or a related field. A minimum of 2–5 years of experience in wildlife conservation, biodiversity monitoring, ecological research, or related fieldwork is required. Experience working with protected area authorities, government agencies, or conservation organizations is essential, along with familiarity with wildlife monitoring techniques and data analysis. Strong interpersonal, communication, and diplomatic skills are necessary, as well as the ability to work in remote and challenging field conditions. Fluency in Thai and strong competence in English are mandatory, and knowledge of GIS applications and statistical analysis software is highly desirable.
Educational Background:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as wildlife biology, ecology, forestry, environmental science, natural resource management, or conservation biology. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of wildlife conservation and biodiversity monitoring, as well as for effectively engaging with various stakeholders in the field.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 2–5 years of relevant experience in wildlife conservation, biodiversity monitoring, or ecological research. This experience should include working with protected area authorities and government agencies, as well as hands-on fieldwork involving wildlife monitoring techniques and data collection. Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities in conservation within Thailand is also beneficial.
Languages:
Fluency in Thai is mandatory, as the role requires interaction with local communities and stakeholders. Strong competence in English is also required for report writing and communication with international partners. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
