Job Overview:
As a Family Support Specialist within the IFES team at 54 reasons, you will play a crucial role in providing intensive support to families facing complex challenges. Your primary responsibility will be to work closely with families whose children are at risk of further statutory involvement if their issues are not addressed promptly. This position requires a collaborative approach, working alongside the Child Safety Service to deliver effective support and manage risks. You will be expected to provide an average of around 10 hours of targeted intensive support per family each week, managing a caseload of approximately 3 to 4 families. The role involves case management support through outreach and home visits, building family capacity using a family partnership service model, and delivering evidence-based, trauma-informed parenting information and education. The average duration of involvement with each family is between 20 and 30 weeks, making this a dynamic and impactful position where you can truly make a difference in the lives of children and families.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Family Support Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Provide intensive support to families with children at risk of statutory involvement, ensuring urgent issues are addressed.
  • Collaborate with the Child Safety Service to deliver coordinated support and manage risks effectively.
  • Maintain a caseload of 3 to 4 families, providing around 10 hours of targeted support per family each week.
  • Conduct outreach and home visits to provide case management support.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Family Support Specialist position should possess the following qualifications:
  • A degree in Social Work, Health, or a related field is strongly preferred, or a Diploma with significant relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in case management, particularly in working alongside families using partnership, strengths-based, and family-centered approaches.
  • A solid understanding of the challenges faced by families supported by the organization, with the ability to engage parents effectively.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and families, with a commitment to cultural competence.
  • An understanding of the importance of early childhood development and the impact of trauma on child development.
  • A commitment to high-quality administrative practices that are timely, accurate, and reputable.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work across multiple family support teams as needed.

Educational Background:
