Job Overview:
The Project Intern position at IOM involves providing support in the implementation of various projects under the Programme Support Unit. The intern will work under the supervision of the Sr. National Government Liaison and Partnership Officer and the Sr. Project Associate. The role includes assisting with movement operations for refugees and vulnerable migrants, particularly at Incheon International Airport, managing movement data, compiling relevant documents, and providing procurement support. The intern will also assist with administrative tasks related to refugee resettlement, including documentation of project results and support for relevant meetings. Additionally, the intern will participate in stakeholder meetings, assist in project development on domestic migrant agendas, and provide logistical support for capacity-building programs. This position is ideal for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in international migration and humanitarian assistance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in IOM ROK’s movement operations to support the safe and orderly movement of refugees and vulnerable migrants through Incheon International Airport, including managing movement data and compiling relevant documents.
  • Provide procurement support related to the movement operations.
  • Assist with administrative work related to refugee resettlement to the ROK, including documentation of project results and assistance in relevant meetings.
  • Support administrative work for ad-hoc return and reintegration assistance to the ROK through documentation and procurement support.
  • Participate and assist in stakeholder meetings and project development on domestic migrant agendas in the ROK, including conducting research, preparing for meetings, and documenting outcomes.
  • Provide logistical and administrative assistance for the ANDEX capacity building programme on travel document verification funded by KOICA.
  • Assist in arranging and coordinating mission events such as seminars, conferences, and meetings, including managing relevant logistics.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
  • Enrolled in the last year of a Bachelor’s degree programme or graduated with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in international development, international relations, political or social sciences, migration studies, human rights, or a related field.
  • Experience in desk research is desirable.
  • Experience in international, non-governmental, and/or government organizations, as well as project support and implementation, is preferred.
  • Prior experience in an international environment is a plus.
  • Proficiency in office software packages (e.g., MS Word, Excel) is required.
  • Familiarity with humanitarian assistance, international development, and migration issues is advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be enrolled in their final year of a Bachelor’s degree programme or have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in fields such as international development, international relations, political or social sciences, migration studies, human rights, or related disciplines. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of migration and humanitarian assistance.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of experience, particularly in desk research and project support within international, non-governmental, or government organizations. While prior experience in an international environment is preferred, it is not mandatory. The focus is on candidates who can demonstrate relevant skills and knowledge in the field of migration and humanitarian assistance.

Languages:
Professional proficiency in both Korean and English (oral and written) is required for this position. This bilingual capability is essential for effective communication and documentation within the organization and with stakeholders. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
The internship covers interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP) at no charge for the duration of the internship. However, IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents and illnesses, and interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for such cases. Candidates must provide written proof of medical insurance coverage before commencing work. Any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation, and the appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, accreditation, and any residency or visa requirements.
