Job Overview:
The Online Volunteers will play a crucial role in developing engaging and informative web content and articles that highlight climate action in Myanmar. This position involves transforming complex information into accessible language, ensuring that the content is publication-ready and aligns with UN-Habitat's communication standards. Volunteers will work remotely under the guidance of UN-Habitat Myanmar's focal point, contributing to the Myanmar Climate Action Campaign 202
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteers will be responsible for several key tasks, including: participating in an initial online orientation to understand the objectives and expectations; reviewing source materials provided by UN-Habitat Myanmar; developing web articles and other digital content; preparing approximately 3-4 substantive articles per volunteer; ensuring clarity and accuracy in the content; supporting themes related to climate action and resilience; conducting limited background research or fact-checking; submitting draft articles for review and revising them based on feedback; and maintaining records of assigned articles and submissions. Volunteers will also be expected to collaborate with other team members and participate in virtual coordination meetings as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear and engaging manner. Familiarity with climate action, sustainability, and urban development issues is highly desirable. Volunteers should be able to work independently, manage their time effectively, and meet deadlines. Experience in content creation, journalism, or related fields will be an advantage. Additionally, volunteers should demonstrate a commitment to the mission of UN-Habitat and an understanding of the importance of climate resilience and community engagement.
Educational Background:
A background in communications, journalism, environmental studies, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a strong understanding of climate issues and the ability to engage with diverse audiences through written content. Relevant coursework or experience in writing for digital platforms will be beneficial.
Experience:
While specific years of experience are not mandated, candidates should have demonstrated experience in writing, content development, or related fields. Experience in volunteer work or involvement in climate action initiatives will be considered an asset. The ability to work collaboratively in a remote environment is essential.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all content will be developed in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those spoken in Myanmar, would be advantageous but is not required.
