Job Overview:
The Development Specialist plays a crucial role within the Resource Development department of the IRC, working closely with the coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Grants Coordinator and Development Supervisor. This position is integral to the organization's fundraising efforts, particularly in leveraging support from individual and corporate donors. The Development Specialist is responsible for a variety of administrative tasks that support the overall fundraising strategy, including volunteer tracking, event planning, funding research, and donor engagement strategies. The role requires a proactive approach to managing donor relationships and ensuring that all fundraising activities are executed efficiently and effectively. The Development Specialist will also be involved in maintaining accurate records and databases, which are essential for tracking donations and volunteer contributions. This position is full-time and reports directly to the Development Supervisor, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and communication within the team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Development Specialist's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting in the creation and production of annual appeals and monthly solicitation materials; conducting research on current and potential funders; supporting special events planning and implementation; accurately tracking and maintaining donor databases using Salesforce; producing timely reports on volunteer engagement; providing general administrative support to the Resource Development department; managing calendars and deadlines; and assisting with in-kind donation drives. The role also involves preparing correspondence and managing data input and filing, ensuring that all tasks are completed in a timely and organized manner. The Development Specialist must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently as well as part of a team.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Development Specialist position should possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, preferably in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or Public Administration with a focus on fundraising. A minimum of one year of professional work experience is required, along with demonstrated skills in donor management and email content management platforms. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new computer applications quickly are essential. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, an outcome-driven work style, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, and colleagues. Experience working with refugees and immigrants, as well as international work or non-profit experience, is highly desirable.

The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with a preference for fields related to Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or Public Administration. This educational foundation is important for understanding the complexities of fundraising and resource development within a non-profit context.
Experience:
The Development Specialist position requires a minimum of one year of professional work experience. This experience should ideally be in a related field, such as fundraising, donor management, or non-profit administration.
