Job Overview:
The Protection Officer - Monitoring will play a crucial role in implementing protection monitoring activities under the technical supervision of the Protection Manager. This position is essential for planning and conducting visits to target communities, collecting data, and reporting on protection trends and risks. The officer will also be responsible for identifying individuals at risk and providing direct assistance to those with specific needs. The role requires collaboration with various sectors to ensure integrated information gathering and reporting, as well as contributing to the development of protection monitoring tools and strategies. The officer will engage with community-based structures to raise awareness about protection risks and facilitate community action plans, ensuring that protection programming is continuous and effective.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties and responsibilities of the Protection Officer - Monitoring include: developing a work plan for protection monitoring activities, ensuring compliance with international standards and DRC guidelines, conducting protection monitoring visits, collecting data through standardized tools, collaborating with other sectors for integrated reporting, mapping available services for effective referrals, conducting community awareness sessions, maintaining relationships with stakeholders, mobilizing communities, and supporting community-based structures. The officer will also be responsible for report writing, documentation of project activities, and contributing to project proposals and concept notes. Regular meetings with community-based protection officers and workers will be held to provide support and ensure effective communication.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in humanitarian response, development, research, or refugee/IDP protection, preferably with an international NGO or UN agency. Strong communication skills in English and local languages are essential, along with the ability to conduct interviews and write reports. Experience in protection monitoring or assessments using online data collection tools is required, as well as good data collection, analysis, and reporting skills. Candidates should demonstrate strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, and must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Educational Background:
A university degree in social sciences, law, social work, international development, or a related field from a recognized institution is required. Relevant certifications or licenses may also be beneficial.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in an entry to mid-level role, particularly in humanitarian response or protection work. Experience working with displaced populations or in conflict-affected areas is highly valued, as is familiarity with protection monitoring methodologies and tools.
Languages:
Fluency in English and Amharic is mandatory, with excellent skills in speaking, reading, and writing in both languages. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.

The contract length for this position is 12 months, and it is classified as a national contract. The duty station is Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with a start date of October 15, 202
