Job Overview:
The Protection Officer – Protection Case Management will play a crucial role in implementing protection case management activities under the supervision of the Protection Project Manager. This position is vital for ensuring that individuals on the move, particularly those facing protection risks, receive timely and comprehensive case management services. The officer will be responsible for conducting regular service mapping and coordinating with various stakeholders, including UN agencies, international NGOs, and local civil society organizations, to facilitate access to essential services for vulnerable populations. The role requires a strong understanding of international protection standards and best practices, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various actors in the field. The officer will also be expected to prepare and share reports on case management activities, ensuring that all information is handled confidentially and in accordance with DRC's policies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties and responsibilities of the Protection Officer include: implementing protection case management activities in accordance with global guidelines and DRC's SOP; conducting identification, assessment, planning, intervention, and follow-up for vulnerable beneficiaries; ensuring functional referral pathways for protection case management in migration hotspot areas; coordinating with health, legal, and other service providers to ensure comprehensive support for individuals at risk; facilitating cash for protection services; conducting case conferences for complex cases; preparing regular reports for supervisors; maintaining confidentiality of case management information; and performing other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of work experience in the legal sector, preferably within a humanitarian context, and at least 3 years of experience in case management related to migration for an international NGO, UN agency, or local civil society organization. A solid understanding of protection case management principles and practical experience working in the Eastern Migration Route is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively with partners. Integrity, a strong work ethic, and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure are also required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, is necessary, along with experience using ActivityInfo.
Educational Background:
A university degree in Social Work, Law, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field of social science studies from a recognized institution is required for this position. Relevant certifications or licenses in social work or related fields may also be beneficial.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, particularly in case management within the migration context. Experience in the legal sector and a solid understanding of the unique protection risks faced by people on the move are critical. Practical experience in cross-border case management is also highly valued, as is familiarity with the dynamics of migration along the Eastern Migration Route.
Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, and knowledge of a local language is required. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse populations.
