Job Overview:
The Associate, Sustainable Business and Infrastructure will play a crucial role in delivering technical and analytical workstreams that support the development and implementation of EBRD investments, advisory activities, and policy engagements under the GET 2030 agenda. This position primarily focuses on urban systems, including water and transport, assessing and enhancing the technical, climate, and sustainability aspects of infrastructure projects. The Associate will apply systems thinking to connect individual investments with broader infrastructure networks and contribute to methodologies, technical assistance, policy dialogue, and knowledge products that facilitate a systemic green transition. The role requires a proactive approach to managing multiple projects at different stages of the project cycle, ensuring technical quality, and delivering clear advice within the Bank's timelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate will independently deliver defined technical and analytical workstreams across the EBRD project cycle, providing timely and well-evidenced advice to Banking teams and other internal stakeholders. Key responsibilities include reviewing infrastructure projects under EBRD’s Green Economy Transition approach, assessing alignment with the Paris Agreement, and evaluating climate-related financial risks. The Associate will conduct technical analyses, including infrastructure needs assessments, technology and design options, system performance evaluations, and climate resilience assessments. They will support investment structuring to enhance green impact and operational performance, contribute to policy dialogue and regulatory assessments, and assist in developing green transition strategies for cities and utilities. The role also involves managing technical consultants, producing concise briefings for decision-makers, and maintaining knowledge of relevant technologies and market trends.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a relevant postgraduate degree or equivalent professional qualification in civil, environmental, mechanical, transport or systems engineering; urban or infrastructure planning; or environmental economics. Additionally, relevant professional experience in infrastructure investments, particularly in emerging markets, is essential. Demonstrable technical expertise in sustainable infrastructure areas, strong analytical capabilities, and familiarity with climate finance frameworks are also required. Candidates should have excellent communication skills in English, the ability to manage multiple assignments, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and learning.

Educational Background:
A relevant postgraduate degree or equivalent professional qualification in a technical discipline related to civil, environmental, mechanical, transport or systems engineering; urban or infrastructure planning; or environmental economics is desirable. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of sustainable infrastructure and the associated analytical work.

Experience:
The position requires relevant professional experience in the preparation, appraisal, design, implementation, or operation of infrastructure investments. Experience in emerging markets or developing-country contexts is preferred, along with a strong understanding of infrastructure systems and the ability to conduct technical due diligence and feasibility studies.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with additional knowledge of another language used in EBRD countries of operations being advantageous. This linguistic capability will facilitate communication with diverse stakeholders and enhance collaboration across different regions.

This is a fixed-term contract position with a duration of 2 years. The role is based in London, United Kingdom, and involves a hybrid working model, with employees expected to attend the office 50% of their working time.
