Job Overview:
The Protection Officer – Protection Case Management will play a crucial role in implementing protection case management activities under the supervision of the Protection Project Manager. This position is vital for ensuring that individuals on the move, particularly those facing protection risks, receive timely and comprehensive case management services. The officer will be responsible for conducting regular service mapping and coordinating with various stakeholders, including national and regional partners, UN agencies, and local civil society organizations. The role requires a strong understanding of international standards and best practices in protection case management, as well as the ability to navigate complex migration dynamics and the unique protection risks faced by vulnerable populations. The officer will also be expected to prepare and share reports with the supervisor and technical team, ensuring that all information is handled confidentially and in accordance with DRC’s policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties and responsibilities of the Protection Officer include: implementing protection case management activities in line with global guidelines and DRC SOPs; conducting identification, assessment, planning, intervention, and follow-up for vulnerable beneficiaries; ensuring functional referral pathways for protection case management in Addis Ababa and other migration hotspots; coordinating services with health, MHPSS, legal, and other essential service providers; facilitating cash for protection services; conducting case conferences for complex cases; preparing and sharing regular reports; maintaining confidentiality of case management information; and performing any additional responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of work experience in the legal sector, preferably within a humanitarian context. Experience in case management in migration contexts for an international NGO, UN agency, or local CSO is essential. A solid understanding of protection case management and practical experience working in the Eastern Migration Route is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively with partners. Integrity, a strong work ethic, and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure are crucial. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, is also necessary.

Educational Background:
A university degree in Social Work, Law, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field of social science studies from a recognized institution is required for this position. Relevant certifications or licenses in social work or related fields may also be beneficial.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, particularly in case management within the migration context. Candidates should have practical experience working with vulnerable populations and a deep understanding of the protection risks faced by individuals on the move. Experience in cross-border case management is also advantageous, as is familiarity with the Eastern Migration Route and its dynamics.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, and knowledge of a local language is required. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse populations.
