Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization founded in 2002, primarily in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Its mission is to save lives and reduce the burden of disease in low- and middle-income countries. CHAI operates in over 40 countries, focusing on creating and sustaining high-quality health systems by working closely with governments and the private sector. The organization has expanded its focus beyond HIV to include infectious diseases like COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis, as well as non-communicable diseases such as cancer and diabetes. CHAI emphasizes the importance of investing in health systems and ensuring that programs are designed to scale nationally, with a commitment to diversity and inclusion in its workforce.
Job Overview:
The Senior Associate will report to the Program Manager for Emergency Referral Systems and will play a crucial role in strengthening emergency referral systems for mothers and newborns in Uganda. This position involves assessing gaps in referral pathways, designing and piloting interventions, and developing protocols and tools to ensure timely and appropriate care for obstetric and neonatal emergencies. The Senior Associate will work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, district health teams, and community structures, to enhance the effectiveness of emergency referral systems and ultimately reduce maternal and neonatal mortality in Uganda.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Associate's responsibilities include supporting the design and implementation of emergency referral system interventions, maintaining program work plans and performance monitoring tools, drafting subcontracts for specialists, overseeing performance management approaches, and building relationships with government counterparts. The role also involves synthesizing data into actionable insights, preparing program reports, developing funding proposals, tracking expenditures, conducting landscape assessments, and providing technical input for the design of referral protocols and communication systems. Additionally, the Senior Associate will lead training sessions for health workers and assist in integrating referral data into health information systems.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in public health, nursing, medicine, health sciences, or a related field, with an advanced degree being a plus. They should have 3-5 years of experience in health systems strengthening or maternal and newborn health, with a proven track record of managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders. Experience working with government agencies or international organizations in a technical assistance capacity is highly preferred, along with demonstrated experience in health facility assessments and emergency obstetric and neonatal care programs.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as public health, nursing, medicine, or health sciences is required, with an advanced degree in a similar discipline considered advantageous.
Experience:
The position requires 3-5 years of experience in a demanding, results-driven environment, with increasing responsibility in health systems strengthening or maternal and newborn health. Candidates should have experience managing or supporting complex projects and working with government agencies or international organizations.
Languages:
While the job description does not specify mandatory languages, proficiency in English is likely essential given the context of the position in Uganda. Additional local languages may be beneficial but are not explicitly mentioned as requirements.
Additional Notes:
The position is remote, and while the deadline for applications is not specified, candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. CHAI is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to diversity and inclusion, and values the contributions of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
