Job Overview:
The Middle School Alliance (MSA) Bilingual Intake Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the recruitment and intake processes for afterschool programming at designated middle school sites. This position involves direct interaction with students and families, ensuring effective communication and engagement. The Specialist will work primarily in the afternoons, from 4 PM to 7 PM, Monday through Thursday, with additional hours allocated for recruitment and intakes, which may include home visits. The role requires a proactive approach to building relationships with families and school personnel, promoting inclusive access to out-of-school time (OST) opportunities, and supporting the overall quality of the program. The Specialist will also participate in professional development and contribute to continuous improvement efforts within the program.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Bilingual Intake Specialist will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

• Supporting the MSA Coordinator in managing student sign-ins and ensuring adherence to program and school rules.
• Assisting with the distribution of snacks, managing dismissal procedures, and facilitating transitions between activities.
• Helping organize and implement events, special activities, and school-based initiatives.
• Participating in the administration of program evaluations to assess effectiveness.
• Engaging in student recruitment and enrollment efforts, including outreach to families, teachers, and school staff.
• Communicating with families about programming schedules, attendance expectations, and transportation updates.
• Promoting inclusive access to OST opportunities and encouraging participation among diverse student populations.
• Building and maintaining positive relationships with youth and families to foster consistent engagement.
• Supporting the implementation of student and family engagement activities throughout the academic year. 1
• Participating in professional development and quality improvement activities as time permits. 1
• Communicating concerns related to program quality and operational effectiveness to MSA leadership. 1
• Ensuring proper supervision of students during transitions and programming, and maintaining awareness of safety concerns.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Bilingual Intake Specialist position should possess a Bachelor's degree in education, youth development, nonprofit management, public administration, social work, or a related field, or have equivalent experience. Additionally, candidates should have up to 2 years of relevant experience in youth development, education, after-school programming, or community-based programming. Proficiency in both English and Spanish, both spoken and written, is mandatory. Experience working with middle school youth and familiarity with attendance tracking, data systems, and reporting processes are strongly preferred. The position does not include supervisory responsibilities for other staff members.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree is preferred for this position, ideally in fields related to education, youth development, nonprofit management, public administration, social work, or similar areas. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education, particularly for candidates with substantial relevant work history in youth-focused roles.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have up to 2 years of experience in relevant fields such as youth development, education, after-school programming, or community-based programming. Experience working directly with middle school youth and familiarity with school communities or after-school settings is strongly preferred. Candidates should also have experience with data tracking and reporting processes, which will be beneficial in managing program evaluations and student engagement metrics.

Languages:
Proficiency in English and Spanish is mandatory for this position, as the Specialist will be required to communicate effectively with both students and families in both languages. Strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages are essential for successful engagement and relationship-building within the school community. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.

Additional Notes:
This position is expected to conclude on June 4, 2027, and is represented by the OPEIU union, subject to the terms and conditions of a collective bargaining agreement. The compensation for this role ranges from $22.75 to $24.20 per hour, depending on various factors such as labor market conditions, job type, internal equity, and budget considerations.
