Individual Consultant Roster: Copyediting and Formatting/Layout of IEU Publications
Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is a multilateral fund established in 2010 with the mission to assist developing countries in responding to climate change while promoting prosperity. The GCF aims to make significant contributions to global climate action and supports developing countries in limiting greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change. Governed by a Board with equal representation from developed and developing countries, the GCF has mobilized 10.3 billion USD, accredited 54 entities, and approved 74 funding proposals. The GCF operates in a country-driven manner, reflecting the unique circumstances and aspirations of each nation. Its headquarters are located in South Korea, and it employs a diverse workforce committed to advancing its mission across various countries.
Job Overview:
The Uptake and Engagement team of the Independent Evaluation Unit (IEU) at the GCF is seeking to establish a roster of qualified individual consultants for two expert categories: copyediting and formatting/layout of IEU publications. This roster will allow the IEU to contact selected individuals for assignments as needs arise, with participation being regularly reviewed. Candidates can apply for either or both categories, and the GCF/IEU will determine the appropriate consultant level based on qualifications and experience. Shortlisted candidates may be required to provide work samples or complete assessments relevant to their application category. The role is crucial for ensuring that IEU publications are of high quality and meet the necessary editorial standards, thereby contributing to the GCF's mission of effective communication and knowledge sharing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultants will be responsible for providing high-quality copyediting and formatting/layout services for IEU publications. For copyediting, this includes proofreading evaluation reports, ensuring clarity and consistency, applying editorial guidelines, and coordinating with IEU staff. For formatting/layout, responsibilities include preparing polished layouts, ensuring consistency with templates, developing graphics, and applying editorial guidelines. Both categories require effective communication with IEU staff and the ability to deliver quality work within tight deadlines. Specific tasks include checking terminology consistency, identifying potential copyright issues, and using industry-standard tools for document preparation and design.
Required Qualifications:
For Copyediting Level B, candidates must have an advanced degree in a relevant field or a first-level university degree with additional experience, along with at least three years of professional experience in copyediting and proofreading. For Level C, seven years of experience is required, along with advanced knowledge of editorial standards. For Formatting/Layout, Level B candidates need similar educational qualifications and experience in document formatting and graphic design, while Level C candidates require seven years of experience in complex publication design. Familiarity with independent evaluation functions and UNFCCC processes is desirable for both categories.
Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree (Master's or equivalent) in literature, journalism, communications, graphic design, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with relevant experience is acceptable. The educational background should align with the specific category applied for, ensuring that candidates have the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform effectively in their roles.
Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of three years of professional experience for Level B positions and seven years for Level C positions in their respective categories. This experience should include work in copyediting, proofreading, document formatting, and publication design, particularly within international organizations or similar settings. Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines and collaborate with diverse stakeholders is essential.
Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for all candidates. For Level C positions, the ability to read and communicate in additional major languages such as French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, or Arabic is considered an advantage. This linguistic capability can enhance communication and collaboration in a multicultural environment, particularly in international contexts.
Additional Notes:
The application process requires candidates to specify which category they are applying for and to demonstrate their qualifications for each. The GCF encourages applications from diverse backgrounds, particularly from women and nationals of developing countries. Successful candidates will be included in the roster for future assignments as needed. The selection process will involve reviewing applications against qualifications, potential assessments, and interviews. The closing date for applications is set for Monday, 28 September 2026, at 23:59 KST, and late submissions will not be considered.
