Job Overview:
The Ecosystem and Policy Advisor role is pivotal in establishing a sustainable and replicable green entrepreneurship ecosystem in Mombasa County. This position involves convening and coordinating various partners, including local government, NGOs, and community organizations, to foster collaboration and support for youth entrepreneurs. The advisor will play a crucial role in mentoring young entrepreneurs, helping them to grow and sustain their businesses through tailored support and resources. Additionally, the role includes facilitating advocacy efforts with the Mombasa County Government to promote policies that support green entrepreneurship and sustainable development. The advisor is expected to commit to a full-time volunteer role, working five days a week for the duration of the project cycle, which emphasizes the importance of dedication and engagement in achieving the project's goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a qualification in public policy, environmental management, development studies, community development, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Experience in project management and advocacy is highly desirable, as is a passion for sustainable development and community empowerment. Candidates should also possess problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Educational Background:
A degree or equivalent qualification in public policy, environmental management, development studies, community development, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to the development of a green entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Experience:
Candidates should have relevant experience in community development, project management, or a related field. Experience working with youth entrepreneurs or in the area of sustainable development is highly advantageous. The role requires a commitment to volunteerism and a willingness to engage with local communities to drive positive change.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with stakeholders. Knowledge of Swahili is highly desirable, as it will facilitate better engagement with local communities and entrepreneurs.
Additional Notes:
This is a full-time volunteer position based in Mombasa, Kenya, with an expected commitment of five days per week. The role is part of a project cycle, and the duration of the engagement will be determined by the project's timeline. Volunteers will receive an allowance paid in local currency to cover reasonable living expenses, although it may not be sufficient to send money home.
