Job Overview: The Senior Advisor position is designed to enhance Pact’s existing expertise in responsible mining by providing senior-level, multi-sector experience and strategic insights. The advisor will focus on strengthening Pact’s responsible-mining portfolio, positioning, and partnerships. This role requires a deep understanding of the dynamics between artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) and large-scale mining (LSM). The advisor will be responsible for building relationships with various stakeholders, including mining communities, governments, and private sector partners, while ensuring that all advice aligns with Pact’s commitment to locally led development and market-based approaches to ASM formalization. The engagement aims to leverage Pact’s extensive experience in the mining sector to effectively communicate its capabilities to diverse stakeholders, including bilateral and multilateral funders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Advisor will work closely with Pact's Business Development and technical leadership to provide strategic advice aimed at growing Pact's responsible mining portfolio. Key responsibilities include leading the development of concept notes and project proposals related to responsible mining, reviewing marketing materials, advising on stakeholder engagement strategies, and providing market intelligence on the priorities of various funding institutions. The advisor will also facilitate senior-level introductions and identify opportunities for strategic partnerships, ensuring compliance with ethical standards and regulations. Deliverables include a kickoff discussion to confirm engagement focus areas, strategic advisory support, leadership in proposal development, relationship mapping, and a closeout summary of activities and recommendations for future engagement.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree and have at least 12 years of senior-level experience in the mining industry, government, international development, or social impact organizations. Strong relationships across the mining sector, government, and funding institutions are essential. The ideal candidate should have experience in designing and implementing large-scale programs in mining-affected communities, as well as a proven track record in developing competitive proposals and business development materials. A strong understanding of ASM, responsible sourcing, and critical mineral supply chains is required, along with the ability to translate complex strategies into practical activities.
Educational Background: A Master's degree is required for this position, reflecting the advanced level of expertise needed to navigate the complexities of responsible mining and stakeholder engagement. The educational background should ideally include studies related to international development, environmental science, or a related field that supports the understanding of mining and community dynamics.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 12 years of senior-level experience, particularly in roles that involve oversight of programs related to mining, government relations, or social impact initiatives. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to lead and manage large-scale projects and possess a deep understanding of the mining sector's challenges and opportunities.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in French or Spanish is considered a plus. This linguistic capability will enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and facilitate engagement in various regions, particularly in Pact’s priority countries.

The consultant will be compensated based on actual hours worked, with a maximum level of effort capped at 130 hours during this period.
