Job Overview:
The Senior Economist will play a pivotal role in the Energy and Sustainable Business (ESB) program at WRI Indonesia, focusing on advancing decarbonization among corporates and facilitating a just transition towards net zero emissions in Indonesia. This position requires a hybrid work arrangement, with a commitment to working in the office for 8 days per month. The Senior Economist will be responsible for conducting and coordinating economic analyses that support the clean industry transition, contributing to the development of evidence-based policy recommendations, and ensuring that the analytical standards of the ESB program are upheld. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including government entities, industries, and other think tanks, to drive the development of a Green Industrial Policy Package aimed at achieving Indonesia's net zero ambitions by 205

• The successful candidate will need to stay informed about climate and industrial policy developments, energy transition economics, and macroeconomic trends relevant to Indonesia's industrial landscape.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Economist will be tasked with conducting comprehensive economic analyses to build a strategic case for clean industry transition in Indonesia. This includes designing research frameworks, selecting methodologies, and drafting research outputs. The role involves coordinating analyses to identify structural barriers and market failures that hinder clean industry transitions, engaging with industry players and market intermediaries to validate and prioritize these barriers. The Senior Economist will contribute to the development of policy packages that maintain and expand market access for low-emission products, support macroeconomic impact analysis models, and ensure consistency in economic assumptions across analyses. Additionally, the role requires translating analytical results into policy reports and briefs, providing strategic support for research direction, and maintaining stakeholder engagement with government and key research partners.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in economics, environmental economics, public policy, industrial economics, development economics, or a related field, with a doctoral degree considered an advantage. A minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience in applied economic research and policy analysis is required, particularly in areas related to industry, energy, climate, or trade policy in Indonesia or similar emerging economies. Proficiency in applied quantitative methods, including econometrics and modeling techniques, is essential, along with strong knowledge of carbon pricing design and Indonesia's Nilai Ekonomi Karbon (NEK) framework. Familiarity with industrial production processes and abatement technologies in key subsectors is advantageous, as is experience in leading research projects and effectively communicating findings to diverse audiences.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Master's degree in a relevant field such as economics, environmental economics, public policy, industrial economics, or development economics. A doctoral degree is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates should have a strong foundation in quantitative methods and economic modeling, as well as a solid understanding of the economic and policy landscape in Indonesia.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least seven years of professional experience in applied economic research and policy analysis, with a focus on industry, energy, climate, or trade policy. Experience in leading research projects from inception to completion, including framing research questions, designing methodologies, and delivering high-quality outputs, is crucial. Familiarity with Indonesia's economic landscape and the ability to engage with various stakeholders are also important.

Languages:
Fluency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English is mandatory, as the Senior Economist will need to communicate research findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

• The consultant will be compensated on a daily rate basis, with a maximum of 15 working days per month. Candidates must have existing work authorization in Indonesia, as WRI is unable to sponsor visas for this position. The role is locally engaged, and Indonesian nationals are encouraged to apply.
