Job Overview:
The Sustainable Mobility Consultant position is situated within the Urban Mobility team under the Urban Basic Services Section of UN-Habitat. The consultant will play a crucial role in providing technical advice and policy support to cities regarding sustainable and innovative mobility solutions. This includes coordinating project activities focused on road safety, conducting research on emerging urban mobility issues, and assisting in the development of project proposals to expand the organization's portfolio. The consultant will be involved in various projects, including the Global Alliance of Cities for Road Safety (ACROS), which aims to enhance road safety through capacity building and technical assistance. Additionally, the consultant will support the 'Evidence for Action Africa' project, which focuses on improving road safety data collection for vulnerable road users. The role also encompasses supporting the implementation of the Pan-African Action Plan for Active Mobility (PAAPAM) and providing technical assistance on street designs. Furthermore, the consultant will contribute to projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from urban transport and enhancing trade and transport efficiency in key economic sectors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: 1) Coordinating project implementation and identifying delivery issues for projects supported by the UN Road Safety Fund; 2) Providing technical assistance and conducting capacity-building activities under the frameworks of ACROS and PAAPAM; 3) Developing and assessing project proposals focused on sustainable mobility, particularly in relation to road safety, transit-oriented development, and multi-modal transport; 4) Supporting the implementation of the T-Gate, ACCESS, and ACTIVATE projects by providing technical expertise on sustainable urban mobility; 5) Developing knowledge products and technical papers while coordinating partner inputs with a focus on safe, inclusive, smart, and electric mobility.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in Urban Planning, Transport Planning, Engineering, Geography, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A minimum of five years of working experience in Urban or Transport Planning is required, along with a solid understanding of transport planning, urban planning, urban development, urban policy, and sustainable urbanization. Knowledge of international organizations and experience working on urban projects in intercultural environments is also essential.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include an advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Urban Planning, Transport Planning, Engineering, Geography, or a related discipline. In cases where candidates hold a first-level university degree, they must also have two additional years of qualifying experience to be considered eligible for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in Urban or Transport Planning. Candidates should have a comprehensive understanding of transport planning and urban development, as well as experience working with international organizations on urban projects. Familiarity with intercultural environments is also necessary, as the consultant will be collaborating with various stakeholders across different regions.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of Spanish is considered desirable, which may enhance communication and collaboration with diverse partners and stakeholders.
