Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position focuses on supporting the Climate Change and Urban Environment Section of UN-Habitat. The primary function of this role is to assist in the design and production of various publications and visual communication materials that convey research and data on urban climate action. The volunteer will work closely with the section head and the design focal point to create visually appealing and informative products that help stakeholders understand complex technical content. This role is crucial in translating intricate information into accessible formats, thereby facilitating informed decision-making and policy development related to climate action at the local level. The volunteer will be expected to deliver a complete package of publications and visual materials within a 12-week assignment period, ensuring that all outputs meet the branding requirements of UN-Habitat and its partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will be responsible for several key tasks, including:
  • Developing visual concepts and layouts for selected reports, policy briefs, and other knowledge products.
  • Designing and formatting publication content in accordance with UN-Habitat and relevant partner branding requirements.
  • Producing or formatting charts, infographics, illustrations, and other visual elements based on information provided by the project team.
  • Supporting limited copy-editing of captions, headings, and short explanatory texts to enhance clarity and engagement.
  • Incorporating feedback from stakeholders and preparing final digital and editable source files for distribution. The volunteer will work collaboratively with the team to ensure that all deliverables are completed on time and to a high standard.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for this position should possess strong graphic design skills, with proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) or similar tools. A good understanding of visual communication principles and experience in creating infographics and other visual content is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while adhering to deadlines. Familiarity with UN branding guidelines and experience in a similar role would be advantageous.

Educational Background:
A background in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates should ideally have completed or be pursuing a degree in graphic design, visual arts, communications, or a similar discipline. Relevant coursework or certifications in design software and visual communication strategies will be beneficial.

Experience:
While specific years of experience may not be mandated, candidates should have a demonstrated portfolio of graphic design work that showcases their skills and creativity. Previous experience in a volunteer or internship capacity within a similar field, particularly in a non-profit or international organization, would be highly regarded. Languages:
