Job Overview: The UNEP Event Design and Stakeholder Engagement Consultant will play a crucial role in executing the Supply Chains Integrated Programme and the Global Coordination Project on Mercury (GCPM). The consultant will be responsible for developing and implementing stakeholder engagement strategies, action plans, and harmonized engagement frameworks. This includes designing and supporting high-impact stakeholder engagement activities such as consultations, workshops, and multi-stakeholder dialogues. The consultant will also establish and strengthen strategic partnerships and stakeholder networks to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the programme. Additionally, the consultant will provide technical guidance on stakeholder engagement and monitor and evaluate engagement activities to document outcomes and improve programme delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Stakeholder Strategy, Mapping and Engagement Planning: Conduct stakeholder mapping and analysis, develop engagement strategies, and maintain stakeholder databases.
Partnership Development and Stakeholder Coordination: Provide technical guidance to partners, facilitate collaboration among stakeholders, and promote communities of practice.
Stakeholder Consultations and Events: Plan and document consultations, workshops, and dialogues, and coordinate participation in global events.
Inclusion, Communications and Knowledge Management: Work with communications specialists to ensure stakeholder engagement supports visibility and knowledge-sharing objectives.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Continuous Improvement: Develop monitoring tools, assess stakeholder engagement effectiveness, and prepare progress reports.
Support other tasks as required.
Required Qualifications: The consultant must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Strong organizational and coordination skills are essential, as well as the ability to manage multiple workstreams and timelines. The consultant should demonstrate facilitation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, along with the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in international relations, public administration, environmental sciences, sustainable development, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in stakeholder engagement, partnership development, or programme coordination is required. The consultant should have demonstrated experience in developing stakeholder engagement strategies and coordinating multi-stakeholder consultations. Experience in environmental management, sustainable supply chains, and working with GEF-funded projects is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for this position. Knowledge of French or Spanish is desirable, as these are also working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
