Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer for social media will play a vital role in supporting the OHCHR New York Office's communications and advocacy efforts. This position involves collaborating closely with the Public Information Officer (PIO) to create engaging social media content that highlights the work of the UN Human Rights Office. The volunteer will be responsible for producing visual communications materials that align with the organization's branding and messaging. This role is essential for increasing the visibility of human rights issues and the initiatives undertaken by OHCHR, thereby contributing to the broader mission of promoting and protecting human rights worldwide.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a strong understanding of graphic design principles and experience in creating visual content for social media platforms. Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is essential. Additionally, the volunteer should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with the Public Information Officer and other colleagues. A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to incorporate feedback into design revisions are also important qualifications for this role.
Educational Background:
A background in graphic design, visual communications, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should ideally have completed or be pursuing a degree in a relevant discipline, which would provide them with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for this position. Coursework or experience in social media marketing and communications would be advantageous.
Experience:
While prior experience in a similar role is beneficial, it is not strictly required. However, candidates should demonstrate a portfolio of previous design work that showcases their skills and creativity. Experience working in a volunteer capacity or within a non-profit organization, particularly in the context of human rights or social justice, would be considered a plus.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications and design specifications will be conducted in this language.
