The office aims to enhance national capacities to protect and promote human rights and implement recommendations from international mechanisms to improve the overall human rights situation. The activities for 2026 are designed in accordance with the strategic objectives and global work plan of the OHCHR for 2024-2027, respecting baseline lines, specific needs, and thematic priorities.

Job Overview:
Under the direct supervision of the Operations Officer and in coordination with the Deputy Representative or their designated person, the online volunteer will provide technical support for the reorganization and optimization of the spaces of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Guatemala, in accordance with the institutional and operational standards of the United Nations. The volunteer will assist in developing a technical proposal to update the office's architectural plans based on the current distribution of workspaces and shared information, which includes related documents, plans, photographs, and measurements provided by the organization. The proposal may consider various spaces such as open and closed workstations, meeting rooms, archive and documentation areas, storage spaces, kitchen and common areas, gardens, parking, and sanitary services. Expected products include an updated architectural plan of the facilities, a basic inventory of spaces and workstations, identification and sizing of enabled workstations within the proposed concept, digital visualization of spaces (including 3D views when possible), and delivery of editable files and a PDF version.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties and responsibilities of the volunteer include supporting the development of a technical proposal for updating the architectural plans of the OHCHR Guatemala Office. This involves analyzing the current workspace distribution and utilizing shared information to create a comprehensive proposal that addresses the needs of various office spaces. The proposal should incorporate best practices related to workplace safety, accessibility for persons with disabilities, and efficient use of spaces while considering basic environmental sustainability criteria. The volunteer will also be responsible for producing an updated architectural plan, a basic inventory of spaces, and a conceptual digital visualization of the proposed changes, ensuring that all deliverables meet the required standards and expectations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a strong understanding of architectural design principles and practices, particularly in the context of office spaces. They should demonstrate proficiency in relevant software for architectural design and visualization, as well as have a keen eye for detail and a commitment to incorporating best practices in safety and accessibility. Strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with team members and presenting proposals effectively. Additionally, candidates should be adaptable and able to work independently while meeting deadlines.

Educational Background:
A degree in architecture, interior design, or a related field is required. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in architectural design or urban planning will be given preference. Knowledge of international standards and practices in human rights and accessibility is also advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in architectural design or related fields, with a demonstrated ability to develop proposals and plans for office spaces. Experience working with international organizations or in multicultural environments is a plus. Familiarity with the specific needs of human rights organizations and the ability to incorporate these considerations into design proposals will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in this language. Proficiency in English or other languages is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and enhance the volunteer's ability to access a wider range of resources and best practices.

This position is a voluntary role, and while it may not offer financial compensation, it provides valuable experience working with a prestigious international organization. The role is expected to be part-time and may require flexibility in hours to accommodate project needs.
