Job Overview:
The Part-Time Finance Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the daily financial operations of the DRC's Tindouf office. This position is responsible for processing financial transactions and accurately recording them in the DRC's standardized cashbook. The Finance Assistant will ensure that all financial activities comply with national laws and DRC's internal regulations, thereby maintaining the integrity of the organization's financial practices. The role requires a proactive approach to managing financial records, ensuring timely payments, and supporting the overall financial health of the office. The Finance Assistant will also be involved in payroll processing, bank reconciliations, and maintaining accurate financial documentation, contributing to the smooth operation of the finance department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Finance Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks including but not limited to: ensuring timely processing of bank and cash transactions, verifying that all payments are supported by appropriate documentation, and maintaining compliance with national laws. The role involves preparing bank payments, monitoring bank balances, and assisting the Finance Manager in maintaining sufficient funds. Additionally, the Finance Assistant will establish and reconcile the general ledger, support month-end closures, and ensure that all expenses are accurately entered into the DRC Dynamics system. The position also requires maintaining proper filing and archiving of financial documents, managing digital spaces for finance, and ensuring the quality of data entered into the financial systems. The Finance Assistant will play a key role in ensuring that all financial operations are conducted efficiently and transparently.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Finance Assistant position must possess strong written and mathematical skills, as well as proficiency in computer applications relevant to finance. A minimum of one year of experience in a similar role is required, preferably within a UN or non-governmental organization. Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, and good communication skills are essential. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team, showcasing energy and initiative in their work.
Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a relevant educational background in finance, accounting, or a related field. A degree or diploma in finance or accounting is preferred, as it provides the foundational knowledge necessary for managing financial transactions and understanding financial regulations.
Experience:
The position requires at least one year of experience in a finance-related role, particularly in environments similar to that of the Danish Refugee Council. Experience in managing cash, handling financial transactions, and working with financial software systems is essential. Familiarity with the operations of NGOs or UN agencies will be considered an advantage, as it indicates an understanding of the unique financial challenges faced in humanitarian contexts.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in English. Knowledge of Arabic or French would be considered an asset, as it may facilitate better communication within the local context and with stakeholders.
