Job Overview:
In this full-time, permanent role, the Men's Healing and Wellbeing Worker will engage with men who use violence in their relationships through both individual and group programs. The position involves travel across Mornington Island, Doomadgee, and Normanton, and requires adherence to the Domestic and Family Violence Services' practice principles, standards, and guidance. The core function of this role is to prioritize the safety of victims and survivors, ensuring that the whole family is engaged and supported. The worker will create culturally appropriate tools to engage participants and promote healing and wellbeing within individuals and the community, while also establishing effective referral pathways.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the Men's Healing and Wellbeing Worker position should possess relevant qualifications in social work, psychology, community services, or a related field. Formalized qualifications in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are highly desirable, as they will enhance the worker's ability to connect with participants and understand their cultural context.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, particularly in the context of domestic and family violence. Experience in delivering programs aimed at behavior change and promoting healing and wellbeing is essential. Familiarity with community resources and services available to support families in crisis is also important.
Languages:
While English is mandatory for this position, knowledge of Aboriginal languages or dialects would be considered an asset, as it would facilitate better communication and engagement with participants from diverse backgrounds.
Additional Notes:
This is a full-time, permanent position that involves travel across various locations. The role offers an award rate salary (Level 4.1 - currently $46.70 an hour) plus full salary packaging benefits. Employees will receive a generous annual remote location allowance, flight benefits, and five weeks of annual leave. Additional leave options are available to ensure optimal performance. - Providing court-based information for men at the Mornington Island, Doomadgee, and Normanton courts on days when domestic and family violence matters are heard.
- Creating and utilizing culturally appropriate tools to engage participants effectively.
- Ensuring the engagement and support of the entire family unit.
- Promoting healing and wellbeing within individuals and the community.
- Establishing and maintaining effective referral pathways to other services.
- Collaborating with community members and stakeholders to enhance program effectiveness.
- Documenting and reporting on participant progress and program outcomes.
- Participating in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
The position requires the following qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to promote healing and wellbeing within individuals.
- Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and their roles within the community.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with participants and stakeholders.
- A current valid driver’s license.
- A Working with Children Check / Blue Card or the ability to obtain one.
- Strong computer literacy to manage documentation and reporting.
