Job Overview:
The Vice President of Breakthrough Partnerships and Foundations will play a crucial role in achieving IRC's ambitious goal of raising $700 million in annual private revenue by 2033, up from approximately $400 million today. This position is designed to build and manage relationships with transformational prospects capable of making multi-year commitments of $100 million or more. The VP will lead the Foundations and Trusts team, leveraging existing relationships while developing new partnerships that align with IRC's mission and programmatic work. The role requires a deep understanding of the philanthropic landscape, particularly in the context of effective altruism and tech philanthropy, to articulate IRC's impact and engage potential donors effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The VP will be responsible for building and owning the Breakthrough Partnerships pipeline, identifying and qualifying prospects for significant multi-year commitments. This includes maintaining at least 20 active relationships across various cultivation stages and gathering intelligence on emerging wealth and philanthropic trends. The role involves designing tailored pitches for each prospect, drawing on IRC's programmatic depth and impact evidence. The VP will also work internally to enhance donor-facing narratives and foster collaboration among IRC colleagues to elevate the ambition of donor engagement. Additionally, the VP will contribute to the Campaign 2033 strategy, shaping fundraising efforts and representing IRC in external forums to build the breakthrough pipeline. Leading and growing the Foundations & Trusts team is also a key responsibility, ensuring strong coordination with program and technical colleagues.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent, along with 15 or more years of relevant experience in major gift fundraising, strategic relationship development, or a closely related field. A proven track record of closing private transformational gifts or partnerships at the $50 million+ level is essential. The ideal candidate should have deep knowledge of philanthropic ecosystems, particularly in AI and technology, and demonstrate strong strategic and narrative thinking skills. The ability to manage a disciplined pipeline and collaborate effectively across functions is crucial, as is a genuine conviction about IRC's mission.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree is required, with a preference for candidates holding an MBA, Master's degree, or equivalent in a relevant field. Educational background should align with the responsibilities of engaging with high-level philanthropic partners and understanding complex programmatic content.
Experience:
Candidates should have extensive experience (15+ years) in major gift fundraising or strategic relationship development, particularly in contexts where closing large, complex partnerships is central to the role.
