Job Overview:
As an Operational Project Assistant in the Air Transport sector, you will play a vital role in supporting the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub's Research & Innovation (R&I) work programme. Your responsibilities will include providing specialized technical support to various air transport-related projects, assisting in the development and validation of new concepts and systems, and ensuring that operational and technical requirements are met. You will be involved in stakeholder engagement, data collection and analysis, and the preparation of technical documentation such as reports and training materials. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying trends and suggesting improvements in procedures and processes, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a multinational and multicultural environment. Your contributions will directly impact the performance and sustainability of European aviation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide specialized technical support to R&I projects and activities in Air Transport, assisting in the development of new concepts and systems.
  • Collect and analyze stakeholders' needs to develop operational and technical requirements, selecting appropriate indicators for validation.
  • Organize and participate in stakeholder workshops, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze data to identify trends and support studies, assessments, and reports, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Participate in validation and simulation exercises to assess project feasibility and provide necessary inputs.
  • Draft and format technical documentation, including working papers, reports, presentations, and training materials.
  • Identify and propose improvements in procedures, processes, technical solutions, standards, and guidelines.
  • Assist and support less experienced staff in the domain of expertise.
  • Develop knowledge and skills in the field of expertise under the guidance of senior staff. 1
  • Carry out any other tasks in line with the main purpose of the job as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed post-secondary education in a relevant domain such as Sciences, Engineering, or Mathematics, meeting European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Level
  • Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is required. Candidates should have experience in developing, improving, and designing concepts and systems, as well as supporting operational validation activities, including real-time simulations and operational trials. Knowledge of the European ATM environment, including ICAO and European regulatory frameworks, is essential. Technical drafting skills in English are required, and familiarity with Agile development methodologies, UX/UI design, and data analytics tools is considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate analytical thinking, creativity, effective communication, quality focus, teamwork, and the ability to work in a diverse environment.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a completed post-secondary education in a relevant field such as Sciences, Engineering, or Mathematics, which aligns with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Level

Experience:
Candidates should possess a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the aviation sector or related fields. This experience should include contributions to the development and validation of concepts and systems, as well as involvement in operational validation activities such as simulations and trials. Familiarity with engineering disciplines and exposure to the definition and management of requirements is also necessary.

Languages:
Proficiency in English at level C1 is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary working language of the Agency. Additionally, candidates are required to become at least a basic user of French at level A1 before the end of the probation period. Knowledge of other languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
The position is a full-time role with a duration of 5 years, subject to renewal or conversion under specific conditions. The selected candidate will be required to complete a probationary period of nine months. The working arrangement is hybrid, allowing for a combination of onsite presence and teleworking, with specific guidelines on teleworking days. The total duration of the appointment, including renewals, may not exceed nine years, and conversion to an undetermined duration appointment is possible under certain conditions.
