Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Human Rights Officer will undertake a variety of tasks aimed at strengthening human rights advocacy in the Pacific region. Key responsibilities include: 1) Building civic space by strengthening networks for land and environmental human rights defenders in Samoa, Cook Islands, and Niue, ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making processes. 2) Facilitating engagement with international human rights mechanisms, linking local efforts to broader regional initiatives. 3) Promoting women's rights and gender equality, addressing the intersectionality of these issues with environmental rights and climate justice. 4) Assisting in the drafting of reports, communications, and briefings for internal and external stakeholders, including policy-making bodies. 5) Conducting educational and promotional activities to raise awareness about the connections between human rights, gender equality, and climate change. 6) Performing additional human rights-related duties as required by the supervisor.
