Job Overview:
The Online Volunteers will play a crucial role in supporting WHO WPRO's regional immunization messaging campaign from 14 September to 22 October 202
  • This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about public health and willing to engage their communities in meaningful conversations about immunization. Volunteers will be responsible for sharing 1-2 posts per week on their personal social media platforms, utilizing various formats such as images, videos, and text-based content. The posts will highlight evidence-based immunization messages provided by WHO or will be original content inspired by WHO's key messages. Volunteers will also participate in a mandatory virtual orientation session and attend bi-weekly learning sessions led by WHO experts on relevant topics. The goal is to raise awareness about immunization and encourage informed discussions within their communities, ultimately contributing to the campaign's objectives of increasing vaccine confidence and promoting equitable access to immunization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteers will have several key responsibilities, including:
  • Sharing 1-2 posts per week on their personal social media platforms, which may include images, videos, and text-based content that aligns with WHO's immunization messaging.
  • Participating in a mandatory virtual orientation session in early September to understand WHO's regional immunization priorities and campaign objectives.
  • Attending two virtual learning sessions throughout the campaign, focusing on topics such as immunization, vaccine confidence, health communication, and countering misinformation.
  • Encouraging respectful and constructive conversations on social media regarding the importance of immunization and promoting accurate health information.
  • Tracking and recording engagement activities using monitoring forms provided by WHO and UNV, including links to public posts and audience reach.
  • Optionally, serving as a Group Coordinator, which involves additional responsibilities such as supporting group members, ensuring engagement metrics are tracked, and compiling a report at the end of the campaign.
  • Adhering to guidelines that prohibit providing independent medical advice or responding to individual medical inquiries.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Online Volunteer position should possess the following qualifications:
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in social media engagement and content creation.
  • A genuine interest in public health and immunization issues.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and their functionalities.
  • A commitment to promoting accurate health information and WHO-approved content.
  • Experience in community engagement or advocacy is a plus, but not mandatory.

Educational Background:
While there are no specific educational requirements for this volunteer position, candidates with backgrounds in public health, communications, social sciences, or related fields may find their skills particularly relevant. A strong understanding of health communication principles and public health messaging will be beneficial.

Experience:
No formal work experience is required for this volunteer role; however, candidates should demonstrate a willingness to engage with their communities and a passion for public health. Previous experience in social media management, community outreach, or volunteer work will be advantageous but is not mandatory.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications and training materials will be provided in English. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the Western Pacific Region is considered a plus, as it may enhance outreach efforts and engagement with diverse communities.
