Job Overview: As a Shipping Officer in CERN's Shipping Unit, you will play a crucial role in organizing and coordinating the import and export transportation of goods worldwide. This position involves managing a diverse range of shipments, including chemicals, radioactive materials, dual-use items, and other regulated goods. Your responsibilities will include ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant transport operations, which are vital for the smooth functioning of CERN's global supply chain. You will be tasked with coordinating transport requests, preparing necessary documentation and quotations, advising CERN users on logistics solutions, and ensuring compliance with international regulations. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity and reliability of CERN's operations, contributing to the organization's mission of advancing scientific knowledge.
Duties and Responsibilities: Your primary duties will include reviewing, correcting, and validating transport requests, as well as organizing import and export shipments by various modes of transport such as road, air, sea, and rail. You will ensure compliance with transport, customs, and dangerous goods regulations, preparing and verifying all necessary transport and customs documentation. Coordination with carriers, freight forwarders, and internal stakeholders will be a key part of your role, as you track shipments and ensure timely delivery. You will also advise CERN users on transport and logistics solutions, prepare transport quotations, and recommend the most suitable shipping options. Additionally, you will verify and approve transport invoices, resolve transport issues, claims, and delivery disputes, and provide excellent customer service by responding to users' transport-related inquiries. Supporting continuous improvement of shipping processes and logistics tools will also be part of your responsibilities.
Required Qualifications: To be considered for this position, you should have some experience in organizing international transport operations, which includes customer service and coordination with various partners across the transport industry. Initial exposure to Incoterms® and their application in international trade and transport is also required. You should have experience in writing clear and structured procedures and work instructions. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with a strong customer and service-oriented mindset. Strong organizational skills are necessary to effectively manage priorities and adapt to a dynamic working environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, is also required. Fluency in both spoken and written English and French is mandatory.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should possess a general secondary education diploma. It is important to note that applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree are not eligible for this position. By the application deadline, candidates should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Commercial Business Administration or a related field.
