Job Overview:

The officer will also assist in servicing the UNECE Team of Specialists on ESG Transparency and Traceability, contributing to reports for intergovernmental bodies, and organizing discussions on development issues. The role requires a strong understanding of economic principles and the ability to analyze data effectively to support sustainable development initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Economic Affairs Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: conducting economic and sector analysis by interpreting qualitative socio-economic information related to ESG transparency; preparing briefing notes and inputs for speeches; assisting senior staff in servicing the UNECE Team of Specialists; compiling and analyzing data for technical cooperation project proposals; preparing documentation for technical cooperation programs; monitoring and assessing the implementation of projects; and performing other related duties as necessary. The officer will also engage in training activities to enhance their skills and knowledge in the field.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong foundation in economic research and analysis, with a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in relevant areas such as policy formulation and application of economic principles. Experience in ESG transparency and traceability of sustainable value chains is essential, along with a background in data analytics or related fields. Familiarity with the workings of the United Nations or similar international organizations is highly desirable, as it demonstrates an understanding of the unique challenges and dynamics within such environments.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in economics or a related field is required for this position. Alternatively, a first-level degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in the specified fields, combined with two additional years of relevant work experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. This educational background ensures that candidates have the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to perform effectively in the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, with a focus on policy formulation and the application of economic principles in development programs. At least one year of this experience must be specifically related to ESG transparency and traceability of sustainable value chains. Candidates with experience in data analytics or similar areas will have an advantage, as this skill set is increasingly important in the context of economic analysis and project development.

Languages:
English is the primary working language of the United Nations Secretariat, and candidates must demonstrate proficiency in English at UN Level III for reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Additionally, proficiency in either French or Russian is desirable, with a minimum requirement of UN Level II for these languages. This multilingual capability is essential for effective communication within the diverse environment of the United Nations.
