The CERN Courier Magazine Associate Editor position is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about particle physics and science communication. Duties and Responsibilities:
As an associate editor, the successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are essential to the production and dissemination of the CERN Courier magazine. Key responsibilities include:
  • Liaising with the global high-energy physics community to stay updated on the latest developments in the field.
  • Generating ideas for articles, fact-checking content, and proofreading submissions to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • Commissioning and editing expert-authored feature articles that provide in-depth insights into current research and advancements.
  • Conducting interviews with leading physicists to gather unique perspectives and insights for publication.
  • Writing news articles, features, and other content that engages and informs the magazine's readership.
  • Curating content for the cerncourier.com website and managing the magazine's social media presence to enhance its reach and engagement.
  • Taking responsibility for the timely production of various sections of the magazine, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Collaborating with publishing partners, partner institutions, authors, and readers to foster strong relationships and enhance the magazine's impact.
  • Working closely with colleagues across the IR-ECO group to support CERN's broader communications objectives. This role offers the opportunity to develop organizational, communication, and editorial skills within a prestigious international research laboratory, while also gaining valuable knowledge about high-energy physics and international collaboration in a multicultural environment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a professional background in Particle Physics, Science Communication, or a related field. The eligibility criteria include either a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience. Additionally, applicants must not have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of particle physics and research methodologies, as well as experience or the ability to quickly develop skills in writing, editing, and publishing.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or PhD in Particle Physics, Science Communication, or a closely related field. Candidates with a Master's degree should have 2 to 6 years of relevant professional experience, while those with a PhD should have no more than 3 years of post-graduation experience.   • The position offers a monthly net stipend of either 6,372 or 7,004 Swiss Francs, depending on the candidate's degree. Employees are entitled to 30 days of paid leave per year, plus an additional two weeks of annual closure. CERN provides comprehensive health insurance coverage for employees and their families, as well as membership in the CERN Pension Fund.
