Job Overview:
The Online English Class Program launched by Better Life Vietnam aims to address the educational gap in English language learning for underprivileged children and youth, particularly those from low-income families and rural areas. The program focuses on providing opportunities for these children, aged 6 to 14, to practice English with expert volunteers from English-speaking countries. Volunteers will conduct small-group online classes, typically teaching 1 to 3 groups per week for 1 hour each session. Volunteers will follow structured lesson plans and utilize provided materials to facilitate engaging and effective learning experiences for the students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Volunteers will be responsible for leading conversational English practice sessions for beginner-level children, following structured lesson plans and using provided learning materials. Specific duties include: conducting 1-hour sessions up to three times a week, supporting children in improving their pronunciation and spoken communication, encouraging confidence in speaking English, identifying and correcting spelling, grammar, and word usage errors, supporting grammar and vocabulary development, creating additional lesson materials or interactive activities as needed, reviewing lesson materials in advance to prepare for each class, participating in orientation, observation, and trial teaching sessions before independently facilitating classes, and filling in evaluation sheets for students at the end of the course. Volunteers are encouraged to create their lesson materials if they have prior experience and obtain approval.
Required Qualifications:
Volunteers should possess a strong command of the English language, with a focus on conversational skills. Experience in teaching or tutoring English, especially to children, is highly desirable. Volunteers should be patient, encouraging, and able to create a supportive learning environment. Familiarity with online teaching tools and platforms is beneficial, as well as the ability to adapt lesson plans to meet the needs of diverse learners. A background in education or a related field is a plus, but not mandatory.
Educational Background:
While there are no strict educational requirements, a background in education, linguistics, or a related field is advantageous. Volunteers should have a strong understanding of English grammar and vocabulary, as well as experience in teaching or tutoring English to children. Any certifications in teaching English as a second language (TESOL, TEFL, etc.) would be beneficial but are not required.
Experience:
Volunteers are expected to have some level of experience in teaching or tutoring, particularly with children. Experience in online teaching or familiarity with digital learning environments is a plus. Languages:
