Job Overview: The Mechanical Technician position at CERN offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the Future Circular Collider (FCC), a groundbreaking scientific project aimed at advancing our understanding of particle physics. In this role, you will be integral to the development of coating technology for vacuum chambers, specifically focusing on Non-Evaporable Getter thin films. You will work closely with a team of experienced engineers, technicians, and physicists, participating in the design, fabrication, and coating processes. Duties and Responsibilities: As a Mechanical Technician, your primary responsibilities will include the design and construction of mechanical components for customized physical vapor deposition systems and associated tooling. You will be tasked with assembling coating setups that operate in Ultra High Vacuum conditions, validating the coating technology and processes on real-scale prototypes, including beam pipes up to 12 meters long. Additionally, you will validate the vacuum performance of the coatings produced within Ultra High Vacuum systems. Your role will require collaboration with various teams, ensuring that all mechanical parts meet the necessary specifications and performance standards. You will also be expected to maintain a proactive approach to problem-solving and contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and technologies used in the project.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Mechanical Technician position must possess a general secondary education diploma and be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State. By the application deadline, applicants should have no more than two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. It is important to note that individuals who have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract are not eligible to apply. While a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree is not required, relevant experience in machining metal parts using lathe and milling machines is essential. Familiarity with CAD software for mechanical design and practical experience in assembling mechanical equipment are also critical qualifications for this role.
