Job Overview:
The WHO SSA Expert in Medical Care will play a vital role in supporting the emergency team in managing medical cases related to public health emergencies. This position is crucial for ensuring effective medical care during both epidemic emergencies and routine clinical emergencies. The expert will work closely with local authorities, UN partners, NGOs, and non-health actors to establish strategic partnerships for the medical care of patients. The role requires a proactive approach to developing clinical activities in various treatment centers, particularly in the context of Ebola treatment, and ensuring that quality care standards are met according to WHO recommendations. The expert will also be responsible for capacity-building initiatives, including training and mentoring healthcare staff, and contributing to the design of training materials and other resources for medical care in emergencies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
Essential: A degree in general medicine. Desirable: A master's degree in internal medicine or a similar field from an accredited educational institution. Essential: At least one (1) year of experience in the medical care of patients in internal medicine, including some experience in clinical management of cases in emergency situations or in a humanitarian context. Desirable: Experience in managing cases of Ebola or other viral hemorrhagic diseases as a frontline clinician in any treatment center would be highly appreciated.
Educational Background:
Essential: A degree in general medicine. Desirable: A master's degree in internal medicine or a similar field from an accredited educational institution.
Experience:
Essential: At least one (1) year of experience in the medical care of patients in internal medicine, including some experience in clinical management of cases in emergency situations or in a humanitarian context. Desirable: Experience in managing cases of Ebola or other viral hemorrhagic diseases as a frontline clinician in any treatment center would be highly appreciated.
Languages:
Essential: Excellent knowledge of French. Desirable: Practical knowledge of another official WHO language or a local language of the workplace would be an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop clinical activities in various Ebola treatment centers in collaboration with partners, ensuring the implementation of quality care standards and optimized supportive care according to WHO recommendations.
- Maintain close links with other working groups and clusters, particularly health and protection clusters.
- Represent WHO at meetings and discussions of the Inter-coordination" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Cluster Coordination Group regarding medical care activities.
- Contribute to the design of training materials and conduct capacity-building activities such as training of trainers, specialized training, and awareness initiatives for members of the national emergency and humanitarian action program.
- Provide ideas for financial and technical contributions to support the development of humanitarian response plans and other relevant strategies.
- Advocate with donors and other concerned partners to mobilize resources for medical care interventions in the country.
- Contribute to the updating and/or development of medical care tools for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, focusing on medical care in emergencies and monitoring and evaluation tools for national and provincial actors.
- Perform any other related tasks as requested by the hierarchical and/or operational supervisor.
