Job Overview:
The Senior Partnerships and Engagement Strategy Advisor will play a crucial role in enhancing the Cities Alliance's partnerships, particularly with USA-based organizations. This position involves providing strategic advice to the Cities Alliance Director, engaging with key stakeholders such as the World Bank, and identifying new partnership opportunities. The advisor will be responsible for representing the organization at various events and meetings, ensuring that the Cities Alliance's work and initiatives are well communicated and understood by potential partners. The role requires a deep understanding of the current strategies and operations of the Cities Alliance, as well as the ability to navigate complex relationships within the urban development sector.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Partnerships and Engagement Strategy Advisor will be responsible for the following duties:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Urban Studies, Economics, Political Science, Public Administration, Business Administration/Management, or related fields with at least 12 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in the same fields with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is acceptable. Additionally, candidates should have extensive experience in sustainable and inclusive urban development, particularly within multilateral development institutions or international financial institutions. Proven expertise in stakeholder management and urban development is essential, along with a strong track record of engaging with partners in the urban sector.
Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Urban Studies, Economics, Political Science, Public Administration, or Business Administration/Management. A Master’s degree in these areas is preferred. The educational background should be complemented by significant professional experience in urban development and partnerships, demonstrating a solid understanding of the complexities involved in sustainable urban initiatives.
Experience:
The position requires at least ten years of professional experience in sustainable and inclusive urban development. Candidates should have a background in working with multilateral development institutions or international financial institutions, showcasing their ability to manage senior-level stakeholder relationships. Experience in representing organizations at high-level meetings and engaging with diverse partners in the urban sector is crucial. Familiarity with the operations of the World Bank is highly desirable, as it will enhance the advisor's ability to navigate and leverage opportunities within this key partnership.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication. Additionally, proficiency in French, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, or Russian at an intermediate level is desirable. These language skills will facilitate broader engagement with international partners and enhance the advisor's effectiveness in diverse settings.
Additional Notes:
This position is a retainer contract with a duration of one year, subject to renewal based on performance and availability of funds. The role is classified at the senior level (ICS 12) and requires a commitment of up to 100 working days per year. Candidates should be prepared to complete mandatory training courses prior to commencing work, which will not be compensated. - Keeping abreast of climate initiatives and funding opportunities within the World Bank.
- Providing technical input and advisory services on partnership projects.
- Assisting in the development of concept notes for partnerships with World Bank projects.
- Actively seeking opportunities for funding and project collaboration.
- Representing the Cities Alliance at relevant conferences and meetings. 1
