Job Overview:
The EdTech Officer will play a crucial role in enhancing education technology initiatives within schools and community learning spaces in the BO District of Sierra Leone. This position is centered around improving digital literacy among both teachers and learners, thereby enabling them to utilize technology effectively in their educational practices. The volunteer will be responsible for building the capacity of educators and students, ensuring that the integration of EdTech tools leads to meaningful improvements in teaching and learning outcomes. The role requires a proactive approach to identify the needs of the community and to implement strategies that foster a positive learning environment through technology.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support the implementation of education technology initiatives in schools and community learning spaces.
• Conduct training sessions for teachers on the effective use of digital learning tools.
• Mentor and support learners in developing their digital literacy skills.
• Collaborate with local education authorities and community stakeholders to promote the use of technology in education.
• Monitor and evaluate the impact of EdTech tools on teaching and learning outcomes.
• Provide feedback and recommendations for improving the integration of technology in educational practices.
• Assist in the development of educational resources and materials that incorporate technology.
• Engage with the community to raise awareness about the benefits of digital literacy and technology in education.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a relevant university degree in education, information and communication technology (ICT), or a related field. Practical experience in education, EdTech, or community development is essential, particularly in early grade learning. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of digital learning tools and their application in educational settings. Experience in training and mentoring teachers is highly desirable, as well as a commitment to fostering digital literacy among learners.

Educational Background:
A relevant university degree is required, preferably in education, ICT, or a related field. Additional certifications or training in educational technology or digital literacy would be advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of pedagogical practices and how technology can enhance learning experiences.

Experience:
Candidates should have practical experience in education or community development, particularly in roles that involve the use of technology in teaching and learning. Experience working with teachers and learners in a classroom or community setting is crucial. Familiarity with digital learning tools and their implementation in educational contexts is also necessary.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of instruction and communication in the educational context. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the BO District would be an asset, as it can enhance communication and engagement with the community.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and as such, it includes an allowance paid in local currency to cover reasonable living expenses. However, the allowance may not be sufficient for sending money home. Accommodation will be provided, but it may be basic due to the nature of the communities VSO works with. The role is focused on community engagement and requires a commitment to working in some of the poorest areas, emphasizing the importance of resilience and adaptability in challenging environments.
