Job Overview:
The Protection Assistant – Child Friendly Space (CFS) Facilitator will play a crucial role in implementing child protection services in Tripoli, Libya. This position is designed to address the urgent humanitarian needs of children at risk of exploitation, violence, abuse, and harm. The DRC aims to establish Child Friendly Spaces, which can be mobile or static, to deliver essential prevention activities such as awareness raising and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support. The Protection Assistant will ensure that CFS activities are executed in alignment with DRC’s Child Protection Policy and the Child Protection Minimum Standards. This role is integral to creating a supportive environment for case management and other interventions as outlined in DRC’s Protection Strategy for Libya. The successful candidate will be expected to engage with children of various ages and backgrounds, ensuring their safety and well-being while facilitating their participation in structured activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks including organizing daily creative, educational, and recreational activities tailored to the diverse needs of children. They will design and implement psychosocial support activities and facilitate children's play. The role also involves supporting community events and awareness-raising initiatives related to child protection. Identification and referral of vulnerable children, including unaccompanied or separated minors, to case management teams and service providers is a key responsibility. The Protection Assistant must ensure that children feel safe, respected, and comfortable in all interactions. Participation in training and ongoing coaching is expected, along with the incorporation of feedback into daily activities. The role requires facilitating community-based child protection activities, adhering to DRC’s guidelines, and ensuring that all interactions uphold the dignity and safety of participants. The Protection Assistant will also be involved in reporting, ensuring data confidentiality, and collaborating with monitoring and evaluation teams to assess program effectiveness. Coordination with senior staff and representation of DRC to stakeholders is essential, as is supporting logistics and compliance with internal policies.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least one year of practical experience in a similar role with international NGOs, donors, or UN agencies. Experience in child protection activities, particularly within child friendly spaces and community-based approaches, is preferred. Familiarity with international protection and human rights legal standards, as well as the Child Protection Minimum Standards, is essential. The ability to effectively represent a humanitarian organization and build trust with communities is crucial. Basic proficiency in MS Office applications is also required.
Educational Background:
A university degree in Pedagogy, Social Sciences, Sociology, Community Development, Humanitarian Affairs, or a related field is required. An educational background specifically focused on working with children is preferred, as it aligns with the responsibilities of the role.
Experience:
The position requires at least one year of relevant experience in child protection or related humanitarian work. Candidates with experience in community engagement and diverse group communication will be favored, particularly those who have worked in child-friendly spaces or similar environments.
Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken Arabic is mandatory, along with a good working knowledge of English. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse populations.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national employees.
