Job Overview:
The Associate Director for Global Lead Exposure will play a pivotal role in addressing the global health crisis of lead exposure, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where the prevalence of elevated blood lead levels in children is alarmingly high. This position involves driving CHAI's market shaping initiatives to reduce lead exposure, collaborating with various stakeholders including governments, donors, and technical partners. The Associate Director will lead early-stage projects to explore new market shaping opportunities and will coordinate efforts across CHAI's global teams to ensure effective implementation of strategies aimed at increasing access to safer alternatives and reducing lead exposure. The role requires a proactive and entrepreneurial mindset, with a strong commitment to CHAI's mission and values.

Required Qualifications:
Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a preference for candidates holding an advanced degree in a relevant field. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in public health, environmental health, or a related discipline, equipping the candidate with the necessary knowledge to address complex health challenges.
Experience:
Candidates should possess a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, particularly in managing complex projects and multi-stakeholder teams. Experience in global health or environmental health is essential, along with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in low- and middle-income countries. The ideal candidate will have experience in market shaping, supply chain management, or environmental health interventions, and should be comfortable working in fast-paced, results-oriented environments.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with additional languages such as French, Hindi, or Swahili being advantageous. Proficiency in multiple languages will enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and facilitate collaboration across different regions.
Additional Notes:
This position is flexible in terms of base location, with a strong preference for candidates based in the United States, Africa, or Europe. The role may require up to 20% travel. - Lead CHAI’s global lead exposure market shaping initiatives, maintaining a strategic overview of the program portfolio and long-term roadmap.
- Manage multiple complex projects involving various stakeholders, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of outputs.
- Hire, mentor, and support staff within a matrixed team structure.
- Shape the long-term vision for the lead exposure program, positioning CHAI as a trusted partner in the global lead ecosystem.
- Identify new market shaping opportunities and lead the scoping of new concepts.
- Design and implement strategies to increase access to safer inputs and reduce lead exposure at scale.
- Coordinate with CHAI country teams to ensure coherent strategy design and effective implementation.
- Oversee market analyses, cost-effectiveness assessments, and supply chain negotiations to improve product affordability and availability.
- Build and maintain partnerships with governments, NGOs, and other stakeholders to advance the lead exposure agenda. 1
- Lead donor engagement, proposal development, and program reporting, ensuring accountability and mobilizing resources for lead exposure initiatives. 1
- Represent CHAI externally with donors and at international forums.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of work experience, or an advanced degree with at least 8 years of work experience, or equivalent experience.
- Proven track record in managing complex projects and multi-stakeholder teams in dynamic environments.
- Exceptional analytical and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated experience in global health, environmental health, or related fields.
- Experience working in low- and middle-income countries.
- Ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
- Proficiency in navigating complex government processes and influencing decision-making collaboratively.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
